Brief

The purpose of this document is to help assist with the manufacture of the

steel work and avoid any unnecessary problems that may occur, that ISL

have experienced in the past. Used as a guide rather than an instruction,

actual processes can be achieved in a variety of techniques.

1. Preparation

Generally the steel work is divided into suitable segments to avoid material

wastage and aid the rolling process, refer to ISL Drg 6659-1-02. Machining of

the cone section is carried out prior to welding, images below illustrate the

steel work already welded to End Flange, but this should be tack welded and

aligned before full weld is completed.

All steel work should be braced accordingly until both steel works (upstream

and downstream) are fully welded.

2. Tack Welding

The segments are then tack welded together methodically and by using the

welding jig this should ensure accurate assembly.

Additional steel to brace sections are proven a successful method

historically; these are then removed after full welding has been completed.

3. Welding and Grinding

Once all parts are tack welded and correctly aligned in the welding

jigs/fixtures, full welds can be applied methodically to help disperse the heat

and avoid warping of the steel assemblies.

All units should be marked at this stage for individual identification; normal

procedure would be to mark them 1-5 with a marker pen.

Welds to be left natural or ground to suit ISL drawings 6659-1-01, 6659-1-02

and 6659-1-03. All weld spatter to be removed also at this stage.

4. NDT

All welds need to go through NDT to the specification prior to machining;

certificates are required for all NDT testing carried out on all units.

100% Inspection is required on all welds; any faults found need to go through

corrective action.

5. Machining

Excess material is included on all surfaces that require machining to length or

where a specific surface finish is required.

Before any machining process takes place, it’s crucial to align and make sure

the assembly is concentric, refer to next figure.

By using a magnetic stand and DTI gauge the concentricity of the assembly

can be measured. Aligning on the rotating bed before any machining takes

place.

All the machining steps should be dealt with in sequence and the assembly

should not be removed from the rotating bed before the necessary machining

is complete.

6. Drilling of Holes

In order to achieve accurate hole positions they’re drilled after all welding and

machining as taken place. It’s crucial that each unit has its own positional

data for the holes (XY coordinates); therefore a machine with this capability is

required.

The XY data positions must be submitted in a printable format, these can

then be sent to client if requested.

tags should correlate to the Inspection Record Sheet which should be

supplied with each unit.

7. Final Preparations

All steel work should cleaned to ISL Cleaning Procedures and hard stamped

in accordance with ISL drawing and order.

8. Submit

All steel works units should be supplied as a pair (Upstream and

Downstream) stamped with the correct identification marks in-line with order

and ISL drawings and they should have 100% inspection.

The following paper work is also a requirement for each unit:

1. Inspection Record Sheet

2. NDT Test Certificates

3. Material Certificates

4. Welding Certificates (BS AS, ISO 4063, BS 499: Part 1)

3 Procedur 3 Procedure Kontroll och provning ska utföras i enlighet med en skriftlig procedur, baserad på villkoren i denna standard.

Inspection and testing shall be performed in accordance with a written procedure, based on the terms in this standard.

Om så angivits i förfrågan eller ordern, så ska den skriftliga proceduren föreläggas köparen för godkännande före provningen.

Where specified in the enquiry or order, the written procedure shall be submitted to the purchaser for approval prior to testing.

4 Metod 4 Method Provningsmetoden ska uppfylla villkoren i enlighet med EN ISO 3452-1.

The testing method shall meet the requirements in accordance with EN ISO 3452-1.

5 Utrustning 5 Equipment Provningssystemet ska uppfylla fordringarna i enlighet med EN ISO 3452-2 eller AMS 2644.

Penetrant system shall meet the requirements in accordance with EN ISO 3452-2 or AMS 2644.

Vid provning med färgad penetrant ska preparat med känslighetsnivå 2 (hög känslighet) enligt EN ISO 3452-2 användas.

For testing with dye penetrant, a penetrant system with sensitivity level 2 (high sensitivity) according to EN ISO 3452-2 is to be used.

Vid provning med fluorescerande penetrant ska preparat med känslighetsnivå 2 (medel) eller högre enligt EN ISO 3452-2 eller AMS 2644 användas

For testing with fluorescent penetrant, a penetrant system with sensitivity level 2 (medium) or higher according to EN ISO 3452-2 or AMS 2644 is to be used.

6 Personal 6 Personnel Personalen ska vara kvalificerad och certifierad i enlighet med EN ISO 9712 eller motsvarande standard.

Personnel shall be qualified and certificated in accordance with EN ISO 9712 or equivalent standard.

7 Kvalitetsfordringar 7 Quality requirements Acceptanskriterier i enlighet med tabell 1 ska tillämpas för ytor i allmänhet, för svetsar samt för fogytor.

Acceptance criteria in accordance with table 1 shall apply to surfaces in general, for welds and for weld preparation areas.

8 Utvärdering av indikationer 8 Evaluation of indications Hänsyn ska tas endast till verkliga materialfel, såsom sprickor, porer och icke-metalliska inneslutningar. Indikationer, som misstänks härröra från verkliga materialfel, ska räknas som sådana. Omprovning får ske efter justering av ytan.

Only real defects, such as cracks, pores, non-metallic inclusions etc. shall be taken into account. Indications which may originate from real defects shall be considered as such. The surface condition may be improved by some suitable method and re-testing carried out.

Vid tveksamhet i bedömningen ska kontrollanten övertyga sig om ytans kvalitet genom t.ex. slipning och ytterligare provning.

When in doubt, the inspector shall verify the surface quality e.g. by grinding out possible defects, and re-test.

9 Provningsomfattning 9 Extent of testing Hela ytan ska provas, om inte annat finns specificerat på ritning eller annat underlag.

Unless otherwise stated on the drawing, the entire surface shall be tested.

Svetsar provas i hela sin längd på svetsgods och värme-påverkad zon.

Welds shall be tested along the entire length, and the heat affected zone as well as the weld itself shall be included.

10 Förutsättningar 10 Conditions Provningsytor ska vara fria från fett, färg, smuts, glödskal och andra föroreningar som kan dölja indikationer och försvåra utvärderingen av resultatet. Se även tabell 1.

Area to be examined shall be free from fat, paint, dirt, scale and other impurities that may conceal indications and affect result evaluation. See also table 1.

Fogytor och ytor i allmänhet ska ha en ytfinhet motsvarande Ra = max 6,3 μm.

Weld preparations and surfaces in general shall have a surface finish equivalent to Ra = max 6,3 μm.

Svetsar ska ha "fin yta", d.v.s. svetsrågen och grund-materialet ska ha slät ren yta med försumbara smältdiken, räfflor eller sprut. Ytan ska vara typisk för den som erhålls vid automatisk TIG-svetsning, pulverbågsvetsning (helmekaniserad) och manuell metallbågsvetsning med järnpulverelektroder. Se EN ISO 23277 tabell A.1.

Welds shall have "fine surfaces", i.e. the weld cap and parent material shall offer smooth clean surfaces with negligible undercut, rippling and spatter. The surface finish shall be typical of welds made by automatic TIG-welding, submerged arc welding (fully mechanized) and manual metal welding process using iron powder electrodes. See EN ISO 23277 tabell A.1.

11 Dokumentation 11 Documentation Provningen ska vara dokumenterad i en skriftlig rapport med följande innehåll:

The testing shall be documented in a written reported with the following contents:

- Tillämpad procedur. - Applied procedure. - Provningsresultat i enlighet med EN ISO 3452-1. - Test reults in accordance with EN ISO 3452-1. - Bedömning av resultatets överensstämmelse med

specificerade fordringar genom "Försäkran om överensstämmelse" i enlighet med ISO/IEC 17050-1.

- Assessment of conformity of the test results to specified requirements by "Declaration of conformitey" in accordance with ISO/IEC 17050-1.

Om så angivits i förfrågan eller ordern, så ska den skriftliga proceduren föreläggas köparen för godkännande före provningen.

3 Generella krav 3 General requirements Följande generella krav och synpunkter på märkning ska beaktas:

The following general demands and aspects on marking shall be observed:

• Märkning måste vara läslig, hållbar och lätt att upptäcka. • Marking must be readable, durable and easy to discover.

• Märkningsmetoden får inte skada detaljen. • The marking method must not damage the part.

• Märkningen bör vara gjord direkt på detaljens yta, när så

är praktiskt möjligt. • The marking should be done directly on the surface of the

part, where applicable.

• Detaljer som inte får märkas direkt på ytan ska förvaras i tydligt märkta emballage eller ska annars vara märkta med vidhängande brickor.

• Parts that must not be marked directly on the surface shall be kept in clearly marked packages or shall else be marked with applied tags.

• För vätskor och gaser, så ska behållaren vara märkt. • For fluids and gases, the container shall be marked. • Märkningens typsnitt ska vara i överensstämmelse med

ISO 3098-1 och -2. • The font of the marking shall be in accordance with

ISO 3098-1 and -2. 4 Identifierande beteckningar 4 Identifying designations De identifierande beteckningarna är: The identifying designations are: • Artikelnummer • Article number

SIT AB:s artikelnummer SIT AB:s article number

• Serienummer • Serial number Ett löpnummer, bestående av en kombination av max 18 tecken och/eller nummer, som gör märkningen på varje detalj unik. Serienumret får inte förekomma mer än en gång per artikelnummer.

A serial number, consisting of a combination of max 18 characters and/or numbers, which makes the marking on each detail unique. The serial number must not occur more than once per article number.

Serienumret ska framgå av beställningen eller skapas utifrån leverantörens nummerserie (i enlighet med avtal/överenskommelse).

The serial number shall be evident from the purchase order or be created out of the manufacturer’s number series (in accordance with agreement).

Serienumret kan exempelvis bestå av ett chargenummer och unikt provnummer, skrivet ihop.

The serial number can for example consist of a heat number and a unique test number, written in one number.

• Partinummer • Batch number En kombination av max 10 tecken och/eller nummer som är unikt per chargenummer och per t.ex. provnummer.

A combination of max 10 characters and / or numbers that is unique per heat number and per test number.

Ett parti är en kvantitet av en detalj som producerats och förädlats gemensamt.

5 Märkning med märksträng 5 Marking with marking string Märksträngen ska vara i enlighet med avsnitt 5.3. The marking string shall be in accordance with section 5.3. Märksträngen, inklusive identifierande beteckningar, ska vara i överensstämmelse med kraven i SIT AB:s inköpsorder eller produktionsorder. Se avsnitt 6.

The marking string, including identifying designations, shall be in accordance with the requirements in SIT AB:s purchase order or production order. See section 6.

5.1 Varaktig märkning 5.1 Durable marking Området för varaktig märkning ska vara angiven på ritning. The area for durable marking shall be indicated on drawing. Om detaljens märkning bearbetas bort måste tillverkaren se till att ha full spårbarhet till artikelnummer samt eventuellt serie-, parti- och provnummer fram till att märkning med dessa beteckningar utförs igen.

If the marking of the part is machined away the manufacturer has to maintain full traceability to article number and possible serial-, batch- and test number until marking with these designations is done again.

5.2 Temporär märkning 5.2 Temporary marking Detaljer, utan krav på varaktig märkning i ritningsunderlag och som inte ska märkas varaktigt, ska vara hanterade så att detaljernas identitet kan säkerställas fram till leverans eller montage.

Parts, without requirement of durable marking on drawings and specifying documents and that shall not be durably marked, shall be handled so that the part identity can be assured until delivery or assembly.

Metoden för temporär märkning ska klara den hantering och miljöpåverkan, som den kan tänkas utsättas för till nästa hopsättningsnivå. Temporär märkning kan ske t.ex. med skyltar eller märketiketter.

The method for temporary marking shall withstand the handling and environmental influence, which the marking might be exposed for until next assembly level. Temporary marking can be done e.g. with signs or marking labels.

Temporär märkning ska placeras väl synlig och får inte skada eller försämra ytfinishen på detaljerna.

Temporary marking to be placed visible and must not damage or degrade the surface finish of the parts.

Temporär märkning beordras inte på ritningen. Temporary marking is not ordered on the drawing. 5.3 Märksträng 5.3 Marking string De identifierande beteckningarna ska åtskiljas med snedstreck och ska alltid skrivas i följande ordning:

The identifying designations shall be separated by slashes and shall always be written in the following order:

Artikelnummer / Serienummer / Partinummer Article number / Serial number / Batch number En identifierande beteckning som inte är tillämplig ska vara markerad med ”-” (streck).

An identifying designation that is not applicable shall be marked with a “-“ (dash).

Avslutande streck för serie- och/eller partinummer (-) ska vara med i mån av plats.

Ending dashes for serial- or batch number (-) have to be included if space is available.

6 Val av identifierande beteckningar 6 Selection of identifying designations Alla detaljer måste märkas med artikelnummer. All details must be marked with article number. Spårbarhetskraven bör vara angivna i inköpsorder eller i produktionsorder, även om dessa krav är angivna i ritningsunderlaget. Sambandet mellan spårbarhet och märkning visas i Tabell 1.

The traceability requirements should be stated in purchase order or in production order, even if these requirements are stated in the drawing documentation. The connection between traceability and marking is shown in Table 1.

6.1 Inköpsorder 6.1 Purchase order I allmänhet, så ska spårbarhetskrav (serienummer, partinummer eller certifikat) vara angivna inköpsordern.

In general, traceability requirements (serial number, batch number or certificate) shall be stated in the purchase order.

If these traceability requirements aren’t stated with “Yes” or “No”, a transformation from design requirement to marking requirement shall be done in accordance with Table 1.

6.2 Produktionsorder 6.2 Production order I en produktionsorder ska spårbarhetskraven vara angivna där det är tillämpligt, t.ex. i operationstexter.

In a production order the traceability requirements shall be stated where applicable, e.g. in operation texts.

6.3 Krav på chargenummermärkning 6.3 Requirements of heat number marking Om dokumentationen innehåller krav på märkning med chargenummer så ska detaljen istället märkas med partinummer, såvida inte annat anges i inköpsordern eller i produktionsordern.

If the documentation contains requirements of heat number marking then the detail shall instead be marked with batch number, unless otherwise stated in the purchase order or in the production order.

This standard is applicable to welding of the low-alloy steels in accordance with table 1-4.

Denna standard gäller ej för svetsning av låglegerade stål mot kolstål, kol-manganstål och mikrolegerade stål.

This standard is not applicable to welding of low-alloy steels to carbon steels, carbon-manganese steel and micro alloyed steel.

Vid svetsning i enlighet med denna standard, kan kvalitetsfordringar, metodprov, leveranskontroll, prov-ningsmetoder, redovisning av provningsresultat etc. vara specificerade i separata tekniska leveransbestämmelser eller på ritning.

For welding in accordance with this standard, quality demands, method testing, delivery inspection and testing, testing methods, reporting of test results etc. may be specified in separate technical delivery terms or on drawing.

3 Svetsprocedurspecifikation (WPS) 3 Welding procedure specification (WPS) Om det är specificerat att svetsning ska vara utförd i enlighet med en svetsprocedurspecifikation (WPS), s.k. svetsdatablad, så bör den vara etablerad i enlighet med EN ISO 15607 eller likvärdig standard genom kvalificering med svetsprocedurkontroll, såvida inte annat är specificerat eller överenskommet.

If it is specified that welding shall be carried out in accordance with a welding procedure specification (WPS), it should be established in accordance with EN ISO 15607 or equivalent standard by qualification based on welding procedure test, unless otherwise specified or agreed.

Kompletterande villkor för svetsning i enlighet med denna standard såsom kvalitetskrav, kvalificering av metod, omfattning av kontroll och provning, acceptans-villkor, rapportering av provningsresultat etc. bör vara specificerade i separata tekniska leveransbestämmelser eller på ritning.

Andra svetsmetoder eller dimensioner kan användas om en tillämplig WPQR (protokoll för svetsprocedur) har godkänts av eller överenskommits med köparens svetsansvarige.

Other welding methods or dimensions can be used if an applicable welding procedure qualification record (WPQR) has been approved or agreed with the purchaser’s welding coordinator.

Kodbeteckningarna ovan för svetsmetoderna följer EN ISO 4063.

The numeric codes above for the welding processes follow EN ISO 4063.

5 Tillsatsmaterial 5 Consumables Tillsatsmaterial i enlighet med tabell 2-4 ska användas. Filler materials in accordance with table 2-4 shall be used. Godkända tillsatsmaterial och motsvarande handels-namn är angivna tabell 5.

Approved filler materials and corresponding trade names are given in table 5.

Andra tillsatsmaterial av likvärdig sort och kvalitet kan användas om en tillämplig WPQR har blivit godkänd av eller överenskommen med köparens svetsansvarige.

Other filler metals of equivalent grades and quality can be used if an applicable WPQR has been approved by or agreed with with the purchaser’s welding coordinator.

Tillsatsmaterialen ska användas i enlighet med leverantörens rekommendationer.

Filler metals shall be used in accordance with the recommendations from the supplier.

Instruktioner för hantering och förvaring av belagda elektroder för metallbågsvetsning ska vara etablerade. Instruktionerna ska minst uppfylla rekommendationerna från elektrodtillverkaren.

Instructions for handling and storage of coated electro-des for shielded metal arc welding shall be established. The instructions shall at least fulfil the recommendations from the electrode manufacturer.

6 Arbetstemperatur 6 Workpiece temperature Arbetstemperatur i enlighet med tabell 1 ska tillämpas och upprätthållas under hela svetsningen.

The workpiece temperatures specified in Table 1 shall be maintained during the entire welding procedure.

Om onormalt stor avkylningshastighet befaras, så ska förhöjd arbetstemperatur tillämpas även för klenare dimensioner.

If an abnormally high cooling rate is expected, an elevated temperature shall be employed also when welding thinner materials.

7 Fogberedning 7 Joint preparation Fogberedning ska utföras i enlighet med anvisning på ritning.

Joint preparation shall be carried out in accordance with instructions on the drawing.

Efter gasskärning utförs en glödgning av material, som ska bockas eller fogberedas genom maskinbearbetning. Där maskinell fogberedning inte är möjlig måste fogen slipas för att godtagbar svetsning ska erhållas.

Gas cutting shall be followed by annealing of the material, which shall be bent or prepared for welding by machining. If machining is not feasible, the joint preparations must be ground to ensure satisfactory welding results.

The groove width may be increased by up to 2 mm in difficult setting-up applications when V and U welds are used. However, the width shall not be less than the specified value.

Smuts, olja, färg, glödskal och andra främmande material ska avlägsnas inom 25 mm från fogkanten.

Dirt, oil, scale and other foreign matter shall be removed from an area within 25 mm of the prepared edge.

8 Svetsning av rotsträng 8 Welding of root run Då rotsidan ej är åtkomlig för kontroll och slipning ska rotsträngen TIG-svetsas med eller utan tillsatsmaterial eller i enlighet med av köparen godkänd WPS.

If the root side is not accessible for inspection and grinding, the root run shall be TIG welded with or without filler material or in accordance with a WPS approved by the purchaser.

9 Skyddsgas på rotsidan 9 Shielding gas on root side Skyddsgas, t.ex. FORMIER 10 (ISO 14175–N5–NH–10), ska användas invändigt vid svetsning av rörledning, om oxidbildning på rotsidan inte kan tillåtas.

Shielding gas, e.g. FORMIER 10 (ISO 14175–N5–NH–10), shall be used internally when welding pipes, if oxidation of the root side is not permissible.

10 Häftsvetsning 10 Tack welding Häftsvetsning ska om möjligt undvikas i dessa material. Om häftsvetsning är nödvändig av praktiska skäl, ska materialet förvärmas lokalt före häftningen.

Tack welding of these materials shall be avoided as far as possible. If tack welding is necessary of practical reasons is, the material shall be preheated locally prior to welding.

Häftorna ska ej göras större än nödvändigt för att de ska fylla sin uppgift att fixera detaljerna vid svetsningen. För att undvika skador på svetsnäsa kan även svetskutsar (distansbitar) användas. Häftorna ska slipas bort och får ej täckas av svetssträngen.

The tack welds shall be no longer than necessary to fulfil their purpose of locating the parts for welding. To avoid damages of the joint area, distance pieces may be used. The tack welds shall be ground off and must not be covered by the weld seam.

11 Reparation av svetsar 11 Repair of welds Om svetsarbetet måste justeras genom ytterligare svets-ning, så ska Instruktioner för hantering av reparationer i svets vara etablerade.

If the welds have to be adjusted by additional welding, instructions for administration of weld repairs shall be established.

Alla reparationsåtgärder ska vara godkända av köparen. All repair actions have to be approved by the purchaser.

12 Avspänningsglödgning 12 Stress relief annealing 12.1 Allmänt 12.1 General I relevanta fall bör materialet omedelbart avspän-ningsglödgas efter svetsning, utan att temperaturen fått sjunka under 150°C före värmebehandlingen.

In relevant cases the material should be stress relief annealed immediately after welding, without allowing the temperature to fall below 150°C prior to heat treatment.

Avspänningsglödgning utförs vid temperatur i enlighet med tabell 1. Uppvärmning, hålltid, svalning och temperaturregistrering ska ske på ett sådant sätt att avsedd sänkning av egenspänningar uppnås och att processen kan verifieras.

Stress-relief annealing should be performed at the temperature specified in Table 1. Heating, soaking time, cooling and temperature recording shall be done in such a way that the intended decrease in residual stresses will be obtained and the process can be verified.

För seghärdat material ska glödgningstemperaturen vara minst 25°C lägre än anlöpningstemperaturen vid seghärdningen.

In the case of hardened and tempered materials, the annealing temperature shall be at least 25°C lower than the tempering temperature used in the hardening and tempering operation.

Om det i undantagsfall och av tillverkningstekniska skäl är nödvändigt att låta svetsen svalna innan den avspän-ningsglödgas, måste man se till att temperaturen intill svetsen utjämnas och att svalningen sker långsamt.

In exceptional cases, if the weld must be allowed to cool for production reasons before stress-relief annealing is carried out, care must be taken to ensure that the temperature in the vicinity of the weld has evened out and that cooling takes place slowly.

Avspänningsglödgningen bör ske i ugn. Om lokal avspänningsglödgning utförs med uppvärmnings-brännare skall samma föreskrifter gälla som vid avspänningsglödgning i ugn. Manuellt styrd gaslåga bör undvikas.

Stress-relief annealing should be performed in a furnace. If local annealing is carried out using burners for heating purposes, the conditions which apply shall be the same as for treatment in a furnace. The use of manual gas torches should be avoided.

12.2 Skyddsgas vid avspänningsglödgning 12.2 Use of shielding gas in stress-relief annealing Om svetsning av rörledning utförts med skyddsgas på rotsidan, bör även avspänningsglödgningen utföras under skyddsgas, antingen så att hela konstruktionen glödgas i skyddsgasugn eller som lokal glödgning med skyddsgas strömmande på rotsidan.

If shielding gas is used on the root side in welding pipes, the stress-relief annealing operation should also be carried out using shielding gas. The entire workpiece shall either be annealed in an inert gas furnace or local annealing carried out using a flow of shielding gas on the root side.
