Year 7 Languages Day 2018
Languages and Learning - A Day to Remember
Languages Day 2018 started off with a bang. Starting with Chinese, we were delighted with an uplifting performance of the traditional Chinese flute and traditional Chinese dances that included a fantastic fan dance. The students had the opportunity to participate in numerous of these events, a delight to us all. From there we went to a spectacular miming demonstration that captured the students’ imagination and allowed them to have a TASTE of French culture. Served with…. hot chocolate. Yummy! J
After a quick break, we saw an enthralling demonstration from our Hapkido teachers and the other black belts from the Korean Hapkido College of Australia. With a few minutes to spare, 10 lucky students had the opportunity to participate in a nunchuck precision exercise and a board breaking lesson.

After that death defying demonstration, all students were treated to a viewing of the Japanese film, ‘Arrietty’. This sweet, heart-warming tale is about a curious girl by the name of Arrietty, who happened to be the size of your hand and lives under your house. The students then delighted themselves with a taste of Japanese cuisine with a chicken or vegetarian Japanese bento box. Yummy again! We enjoyed this treat.
At end the day, Year 7 saw an Italian theatre performance. In this performance, Year 7 had a quick history lesson of Italy, wrapped in a humour-filled production. With corny jokes, and even more laughs, Year 7 ended the 2018 Languages Day with a ‘scoppio,’ … or a bang!

NSW Minister’s Award for Excellence in Student Achievement
2018
I was so glad to have been able to receive the 2018 Minister’s Award for
Excellence for Community Languages study for my Korean study. All my
family, including mum and dad and my younger sister, attended the
award ceremony with me at UNSW on 29 October 2018. The Honourable
Mr Stokes, NSW Minister for Education, gave his speech and many
officials attended the ceremony. I had the chance to meet many other
students who have studied very hard for their heritage languages.
I want to thank the Languages Faculty at Strathfield Girls High School,
Saturday School of Community Languages, Strathfield Girls High School
Centre and my parents for their ongoing support during my study. I also
want to thank my Korean teachers for putting lots of effort for me. One of
my Korean teachers told me that “if you try and put effort to it you can
succeed''. I want to thank Ms Lyris for supporting me and organising the
things that I need to do for the award ceremony and Mr Liu for coming
and representing our wonderful school at the ceremony.
