Greetings! In the same month that our nationreflects on the people and things that we are mostthankful for, WE are thankful to have the supportof those around us to continue the programs thatour children enjoy the most at Southgate.

We are pleased to announce that the Fall

Fundraisers and the Fall Book Fair were bothsuccesses as reflected by the amount of moneyearned for PTA programs and by the number ofvolunteers that came together to help.

parent turned adoptive parent, a stay at home dad,stay at home moms, widows as single parents,working professionals, and new families who havemoved here from all over the country.

Yearbook

Do forget: The Southgate Yearbook isalways in need of pictures! Hard copies ofclassroom written on the back and forwardedyou prefer, email pictures [email protected]. This year,

room parent volunteers are asked to submitat least 1-4 photos per class from holidayparties. The Yearbook Committee will selectphotos and return all photos if a name andclassroom are included.

Attention 6th Grade parents! TheYearbook Committee is collecting pictures of6th Grade students in younger years atSouthgate events. Please send them in sowe can start organizing the "6th Grade

Through the Years" pages.

Do you know an exceptional teacher atSouthgate or one that goes out of their wayto help the Southgate Community?News Channel 13 and SEFCU are once againteaming up for the Top Teacherprogramand need your help. Nominate an

outstanding teacher by logging ontowww.wnyt.com, clicking on Top Teacherand filling out the nomination form. You canalso mail or fax your nomination by using theattached form.

The PTA will proudly sponsor for the students at Southgate onNovember3- 4. The students will have a specialpresentation by Caldecott honoredauthor/illustrator Brian Pinkney who willshare experiences from his career as anillustrator and author, play the drums, andinspire the students to follow their passions.Please ask your child about this specialprogram!

Candy Wrapper Challenge

Each year millions of candy wrappers areneedlessly discarded and end up in landfills.LCandy Wrapper Brigade and helped give3,652 candy wrappers a second life. Thecollected wrappers are used to createcollected our school receives 2 cents.

Southgate PTA Go Green invites you to joinour Candy Wrapper Brigade once again thisyear to help reduce waste and earn moneyfor our school. Everyone who participateswill be entered in a drawing to win Terracycle

Collect close-to-clean candy wrappers (nogum wrappers please) in a paper bag andwrite your name and class number on it.

Return the bag to school and place in themarked bin in the lobby before November 18.

Come and test your basketball skills and try

TurFriday, November 18 from 6 to 8 pmThe Turkey Shoot is a basketball competition in which a student teams up with their parentor another family member and shoots baskets (not turkeys!) into an age appropriate-sizedbasketball hoop. All students must be accompanied by an adult.

Rules for the Game:

1. Scorecards are $2 each. Players may purchase as many score cards as desired. The

best score card for a team will be used. Scores will be tallied by grade level.2. Each team player will have the opportunity to shoot 7 baskets. Each basket will be

worth 1 point. A team total of 14 points is possible.3. In case of a tie, the names will be placed in a hat and a winner drawn.4. Prizes: (each grade level will be awarded one of each)

First prize: A Turkey

Second: Holiday Pie

Third: Holiday Pie

Join us in the cafeteria for refreshments and admire the Tom the Turkeypictures colored by students.***Please have your child color the attached turkey and return

to school by November 18.***Themed baskets will also be raffled. You need not be present to win.
