Most business schools offer a single MBA for all types of students. SFU’s Beedie School of Business has developed programs designed for specific categories of leaders.

The MBA produces graduates with the confidence and ability to handle the big picture challenges of the 21st century with the most current and innovative management practices.

All classes take place at SFU’s award-winning Surrey campus located adjacent to the Surrey Central SkyTrain station.

Most importantly, this program provides a dynamic exchange of ideas with Faculty who are thought leaders in their fields and classmates experienced in different industries and functional areas.

A part-time program designed for working professionals, students take what they learn on Tuesday and apply it on Wednesday. This transformative experience prepares graduates to succeed in roles that require knowledge and decision making across the functional areas of business, and the ability to adapt to a changing environment.

AN MBA FOR WORKING PROFESSIONALS

AN MBA FOR WORKING PROFESSIONALS

Page 4: SFUBeedie PT Brochure

While our curriculum moves quickly, the workload is intended to be manageable for someone who is also working a demanding full-time job.

Beginning in January, classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for 2 years (6 semesters).

In this established face-to-face MBA program, class sizes are small which encourages participation, discussion and direct feedback from instructors and your cohort.

APPLIED LEARNINGCases and projects bring leading business knowledge to life. Cases are descriptions of real business scenarios that put you in the role of the decision maker. Assignments and class discussions mirror the challenging situations students encounter in their professional life. This environment encourages the group to learn from one another by sharing perspectives from their diverse industries and functional areas.

Course work is assigned on both an individual and team basis. Individual assignments allow you to apply what you’ve learned to solve problems for your organization. Team work brings together the complementary skills and diverse backgrounds of your cohort to develop creative solutions to complex problems.

The MBA allows students to practice making decisions in a supportive environment. Unlike on the job, this is a program where it is safe to fail and learn from mistakes.

LEARN BY DOING.LEARN BY DOING.

COHORT LEARNINGCohort learning is an integral part of our program. You will learn from one another as you form lifelong personal and business connections. Your MBA cohort will experience the entire program together and participate in a set schedule of classes and learning experiences.

Study groups, designed to emulate an executive leadership group, collaborate on projects and presentations. In this diverse group, team members take turns being the project leader and learn how to capitalize on each other’s strengths.

“My MBA at SFU is giving me the skills and experience I need to take the next step in my career. The cohort model is a great learning tool, I am benefiting immensely from the varied experience of my classmates and enjoying the team approach to learning.”

Warren Cundy, MBA Student, 2014 CohortProject Manager, Provincial Health Services Authority

“The part-time MBA program was an excellent educational experience and the cohort model fostered the co-learning of the group. The theory and experiences developed in the classroom were highly applicable and immediately utilized in practice for the advancement of my career.”

Richard Welfing, MBA Student, 2014 CohortTransportation Engineer, Township of Langley

“I always wanted to pursue an MBA, but there was constantly something else happening in my life. When I heard that SFU would offer a part-time MBA program, I told myself – THIS IS IT! This is my opportunity to follow my dream! For a parent with a full-time job I find the program to be a perfect match. Insightful and accomplished lecturers, classmates who bring in different cultures and backgrounds, a team –based approach are only a few of the ingredients that make this program a thrilling experience for me.”

Nicole Rozinbaum, MBA Student, 2014 CohortBranch Manager, ITN International Ltd.
