Owl Hoops Coaches Corner It was another success- ful summer for Seymour Basketball. In addition to playing over 25 games at all levels, a great camp week, intense strength sessions and countless early morning skill sessions, our guys bonded really well off the court and our seniors and returning letter win- ners have embraced their new roles as pro- gram leaders. If you’ve seen our camp shirts, you know that our program motto this sea- son is “CHASE IT.” For three years we have talked adamantly about the process and focus- ing on our improvement each and every day. As all of us know, that is a difficult task, especially in this microwave society (we all want instant grati- fication), so we’ve tried to give our players specific goals, numbers, times, etc. to focus on and CHASE every day within the context of practice, drills and the classroom. By having these measur- able goals and tasks to chase, we have seen a lot of our players more focused and their energy directed towards the small goals on a daily basis. Ultimately this al- lows them to stay mindful of the moment, while pur- suing the big picture goals for our team. It is hard to believe that practice starts in less than 80 days...our players are working hard to continue elevating this program back to where we all hope and want it to be. As always, thank you for supporting Seymour Bas- ketball. We know how lucky we are to have such loyal parents, players and community. Hoosier Hysteria: Save the Date

To kick the summer off, we welcomed nearly 200

boys in grades K-12 to our skills camp. It was an

absolute joy watching players of all levels working to

accomplish goals. We love seeing our campers out

and about in the community and listening to what

they’ve been working on to improve their game.

Our 3rd annual Parent Club Golf Outing was a major

success. We look forward to watching this event

grow every year. Records were set for number of

golfers, hole sponsorships and total money raised for

our Parent Club. We even had a few people rise to

the occasion in wardrobe selection, Team Thompson.

Players truly started to embrace the hard work

and dedication it takes to be an elite competitor

in the weight room. By the end of the summer,

players were well above personal bests and

setting the table for future success. We asked a

lot of our kids this summer and they responded.

Seymour Middle School teams worked on individual,

team and shooting skills on a regular basis this sum-

mer. They had a great time at Hanover team camp

and represented well at our 3rd annual Middle

School summer league. We look forward to watching

these guys grow over the next handful of years.

Beyond working on their individual games, our high

school players competed against some of the top

competition this state and Kentucky had to offer. Our

guys battled in a number of shootouts, the New Al-

bany/Louisville summer league and had a great

weekend in Fort Wayne at D1 team camp.

The summer outdoor league is always a lot of

fun for our young players and older players

alike, who get their first taste as coaches. The

SHS tennis courts serve as the ultimate summer

playground as our kids get a chance to compete

in games under the lights.
