Supply List for Stars

This project is machine applique, it is fun and easy to do. To learn a new technique it is best to

start with four applique squares. The applique squares are 10” in size, and then expands out to 18”. This sample above has the squares together., on one large background. The bottom samples have each 10” applique square on different col-or backgrounds. The pattern of Grand Union has nine different color backgrounds for the nine blocks. You can get those supplies and start on that project, or make one of these variations to the pattern. We will only have time in class to do four blocks.

Fabric for background 1 yd. (above photo) or 1/2 yd. of red, white and blue (below photo)

BERNINA STITCH REGULATOR

With the aid of technology, the BSR system reads (similar to a wireless mouse) the surface of the fabric under the presser foot. A sensor transfers information to the sewing machine as the material is moved. The sewing machine calculates the neces-sary sewing speed in order to sew consistent stitches according to the set stitch length.. A slower needle movement and mo-tor speed is required if the material is moved slowly. A faster needle movement and motor speed is needed for faster fabric movement. The BSR, in tandem with the sewing machine, au-tomatically adjusts to the sewer’s speed for even and consistent stitching. In this class we will share tips and tricks to successful free mo-

tion stitching. Experience your BERNINA Stitch Regulator hands on! We will also discuss the use of a variety of different threads and you will learn how to adjust tensions accordingly!

How does the BSR work?
