ENG | The art group Seventh Sense wasborn in L’Aquila in 2006. It’s the meetingpoint of 4 creative people who experi-ment and develop different personalbackground while sharing a common re-search, reached by technological langua-ges of the contemporary society, that is inconstant evolution. Such languages arecontextually contaminated by the meretraditional and archaic forms of our cul-ture.The Shaman rite and his guide role,body importance and use of alchemic pro-cesses are the most stressed topics tounderstand mankind and the world ofphenomena, setting up a union betweenmaterial and digital dimension, man andmachine, leading to results oriented tomulti-sensoriality and synaesthesia.

ITA | Il gruppo d’arte Seventh Sensenasce a L’Aquila nel 2006. ENG | The two prevailing generationalaspects of the millennium beginning un-doubtedly are the aptitude and the fasci-nation for technology. They can coexist inthe universe of medias even being conflic-ting.Aptitude. Nothing seems to be strongerthan tentacular practice in reflecting one’slife into web. No more border lines bet-ween private and public life. The whole exi-stential sphere is transferred to ether,often to “publish” one’s SELF, which is splitin images, tags, posts, concise phrases, di-gital-photographic feelings and high-nar-cissism, to the unknown world of socialnetworks. But, as it seems, it produceshappiness.Fascination. It’s an instinct, opposite topractice. It’s a flow filling a person from hisneurons to his epidermis. Skin becomeselectronic like everything that, fromthought, turns into a cultural object. The-re’s no escape from such obsession. It’s apervading virus which infects the brain andenraptures its victim.Technology means endemic and alchemicfascination to the Seventh Sense. The te-chno-collective, born in 2007, tries, in aprogressive process of multiform creation,to devise work in progress taking up andmixing music with photography, perfor-mance, happenings and techno-sculptures,all alternated in an inspiring anthropologi-cal context. Such manipulation only hybri-dizes the visceral feeling to skin sensationin an often dematerialized objectuality, likein Electric Rituals performance. That per-formance was realized in progress in 2009,

ITA | L’attitudine e la fascinazione alla tec-nologia sono indubitabilmente le due do-minanti, generazionali di inizio millennio.Pur essendo contraddittorie tra esse rie-scono a convivere nell’universo mediale.Attitudine. Niente sembra più potente dellapratica tentacolare a riversare la propriavita sul web. Non esiste più scissione traprivato e pubblico. L’intera sfera esisten-ziale viene trasferita nell’etere, spesso per“comunicare” il proprio Sé, frammentato inimmagini, tag, post, frasi lapidarie, umori emega narcisismo digital-fotografico, al-l’ignoto mondo dei social network. Eppureciò provoca felicità, pare.Fascinazione. E’ una pulsione contraria allapratica. E’ una corrente che pervade il sog-getto dai neuroni all’epidermide. La pellediventa elettronica così come tutto ciò chedal pensiero si tramuta in oggetto cultu-rale. Impossibile sfuggire a tale osses-sione. E’ un virus pervasivo che attacca ilcervello e rapisce la sua vittima. Per i Se-venth Sense la tecnologia è fascinazioneendemica e alchemica. In un progressivoprocesso di creazione multiforme, il te-chno-collettivo, nato nel 2006, tenta dicongegnare work in progress che assor-bono e mixano musica, fotografia, perfor-mance, happening, techno-scultureavvicendati in un contesto ispirativo antro-pologico. Tale manipolazione non fa cheibridare il viscerale al pellicolare in una og-gettualità spesso smaterializzata, come nelcaso della performance Elettro-rituali rea-lizzata in progress nel 2009, in cui il noisesperimentale viene coniugato alle immaginielettroniche e ad una scenografia psiche-

its experimental noise is combined to elec-tronic images and a psychedelic-psychoticset. This context becomes an unlimited,personal and sensory experience. One’sSELF slides and gives up to a distorted andinterchangeable dimension. A personalone.Actually, it’s the creation of a kind of sy-naesthetic multiuniverse, coming from thepersonalities’ differentiation of the collec-tive and is mixed in the common researchon the techno-rite vibes. The attempt tomatch the excitement of techno-mutationto the magic-religious practices of Sha-manism, frequently recalled by SeventhSense artists in their productions, looks anonsense and conflicting duality. Most pro-bably, this bivalence comes from the ideaof “possession”, almost trance, which is in-duced into Seventh Sense artists imagina-tion by the techno-mutating obsession.Maybe all this comes from the attempt toregain some ancestral physical forms ofcreation contemporarily contextualized.Se-venth Sense’s mood is, therefore, experi-mental. In this ground, they manage tojoin past to future into an omnivorous pre-sent, altered and congested by the millionsof chips that record our contemporaneousbeing.

Ap-parentemente sembra una duplicitàinconciliabile e quasi dissennata quella diaccomunare la fibrillazione della tecno mu-tazione alle pratiche magico-religiose dellosciamanesimo che, spesso, nei loro pro-getti richiamano in causa. Molto più plausi-bilmente questa bivalenza è dovutaall’associazione dell’idea di “possessione”,di quasi transe che l’ossessione tecnomu-tativa provoca nell’immaginazione dei Se-venth Sense. Probabimente tutto ciò nascedall’idea di un recupero di forme di crea-zione corporee ancestrali contestualizzatenell’era contemporanea.IL mood dei SEVENTH SENSE è dunquesperimentale. In questo territorio riesconoa conciliare passato e futuro in un presenteonnivoro, alterato e congestionato dai mi-lioni di chip che iscrivono la nostra con-temporaneità.

The performance goal is to turn audio-vi-sual sensations into matter: abstract beco-mes concrete. The process goes on by t?ework of a visual-performer who turns thesound into a concert of images. During anaudio-track execution, this figure worksside by side with a body-performer chan-ging music to matter, masterizing hisaudio-visual sensations on a smooth claydisc.

The conceptual essence of this perfor-mance identifies with the artists’ moves onthe stage. The sense of imbalance, preca-riousness and dissatisfaction in ordinarylife inevitably cause an unexplainable emo-tional reaction. This show is staged to exa-mine and mark an artist’ role, whosesensibility is frequently denied in the con-temporary society.While the cast of mind weaken, the tran-sformation starts; the coexistence of adouble personality becomes a psychic andinner conflict which, swaying into ambi-guity, ends in tragedy.The aesthetic observation of the psycheseems to generate moments of real re-stlessness, in the intellectual vision of theworld as well as in its practical representa-tion.During his agony, the artist manipulates

Il senso di squilibrio,precarietà e insoddisfazione nella vita or-dinaria provocano, immancabilmente, unareazione emotiva inesplicabile. Performance isn't only an audio-visual one,there are also bodies moving in aspace.The intention is to create an inter-vention able to fuse technology and tradi-tional languages in the deepest andsmartest union.This union between oppo-sites materializes through the work of aperformer beating an installation, in a sortof syncretic dialogue with an audio-elec-tronic track, symbol of the technologicalevolution.The ritual staging is offered tothe optical unconscious of a webcam, cap-turing the distorted signal of the television.Such signal is produced by sendling thesound of percussions to the video input ofa television; then it's drawn on and elabo-

La performance è da intendere non solocome prestazione audiovisiva, ma anchecome azioni di corpi in uno spazio.L'intento è di creare un intervento cheabbia la capacità di fondere, nel connubiopiù profondo e raffinato, la tecnologia coni linguaggi tradizionali.Quest'unione degli opposti si materializzacon l'intervento di un performer che per-cuote un’installazione, in una sorta di col-loquio sincretico con una traccia audioelettronica, simbolo dell’avanzare tecnolo-gico.La messa in scena rituale si offre all'"in-conscio ottico" di una webcam, la qualecattura il segnale distorto della tv; tale se-

Questo mecca-nismo ciclico, che si cela finora allo spetta-tore, è contaminato dalle distorsioni e daidisturbi audiovisivi di un terzo performerche, agendo su una sorta di interruttorerudimentale con il suo bastone sciamanico,può alterare le bande del canale televisivoe conseguentemente il risultato in proie-zione.L'anello di congiunzione degli opposti èrappresentato dallo sciamano, che ci con-duce in una dimensione mistica, mediumper l’avvicinamento alla sfera del divino.

Installation appears provocative and irre-verent, showing an incandescent electricresistance inserted on a stone. But, overthe desectrating aspect, the attention isaddressed to the principle of resistance,consisting on the opposition of two forces,two poles, the negative and the positiveone, both symbols of two different andconflicting ideology.The stone is the symbolof the mountain, theatre of the PartisanResistance, but also milestone of the me-mory, involved by the warmth and historicattendance to the event.If you come closerto it, you can still feel that energy, rene-wed and able to generate new resistan-ces.The fundamental of resistance is in thesolidity of the stone, the truth where art,science and wish for freedom are engaged,in a scenario of unification and sympa-thy.The truth produces freedom, freedom

L'installazione si presenta in modo provo-catorio e irriverente, mostrando una resi-stenza elettrica incandescente innestata sudi una pietra. Al di là dell'aspetto dissa-crante però, si vuol portare l'attenzione sulprincipio di resistenza, che consiste nel-l'opposizione di due forze, due poli, quellopositivo e quello negativo, entrambe em-blema di due diverse ideologie contra-stanti.La pietra è simbolo della montagna, teatrodella Resistenza Partigiana, ma anche pie-tra miliare della memoria, che si lasciacoinvolgere dal calore e dalla partecipa-zione storica all'evento.Avvicinandosi, si percepisce ancora quel-l’energia, rinnovata e capace di alimentarenuove resistenze.La resistenza ha il suo fondamento sullasolidità della roccia, la verità su cui si in-
