Setting Up Secured Profile on IBM T30 ThinkPad
Part 1: Administrative service setup
1. The user has to logon with an administrator rights or account on the
computer to carry this section.
2. To access the window services, select
Start Programs Administrative Tools Services
3. Under Services, look for Wireless Configuration and select its properties
to change the setting.

4. On Wireless Configuration Properties General tab:
a. Change the Startup Type to Automatic.
b. Click Start button to launch the Wireless Configuration service.

5. On Wireless Configuration Properties - Log On tab:
a. Ensure the service is Log on as Local System account
b. Uncheck on Allow service to interact with desktop

6. Click OK button to complete the Administrative service setup.

Part 2: IBM Built-in WLAN setup
1. The user has to logon with an administrator rights or account on the
computer to carry this section
2. To access the window services, from the window, select on
Start Settings Network and Dial-up ConnectionsWLAN.
Select Properties to setup the WLAN.
3. On WLAN Properties, select Authentication tab.

4. At Authentication tab, ensure the following:
a. Check on Enable network access control using IEEE 802.1X
b. EAP type: Protected EAP (PEAP)
c. Check on Authenticate as computer when computer
information is availabled. Click Properties button to setup PEAP properties.

5. At Protected EAP Properties, ensure the following:
a. Check on Validate server certificate
b. Uncheck on Connect to those servers
c. Authentication Method: Secured password (EAP-MSCHAPv2)d. Check on Enable Fast Reconnect
e. Click Configure button to set EAP-MSCHAP v2 properties.

6. At EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties, checkAutomatically use my Windows
logon name and password (and domain if any).
Click on all OK button to apply the new setting

Part 3: IBM Access Connection setup
1. The user has to logon to an account on SPICE staff domain.
2. To access the IBM Access Connection, from the window Task Bar, double
click on the icon as shown.
3. To create a new profile, from top menu of IBM Access Connections, select
Location Profiles Create New Profile

4. In Choose Your Connection Type, the setting are as follows
a. Name the location profile: Secured Profile
b. Select Wireless 802.11 connection to an Access Point or
Residential Gateway (WLAN)c. Uncheck on Virtual private networking (VPN) connection
d. Click Next button for further configuration

5. In Choose Your Wireless Adapter,
a. Select High Rate Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Adapter with
Modem
b. Click Next button for further configuration

6. In Edit Your TCP/IP Settings,
a. Select Obtain an IP address automatically
b. Select Obtain DNS server address automatically

a. Select Use the current Advanced DNS settings

8. In Edit Your Wireless Network Settings, the setting are as follows
a. Network Name (SSID): wLan2SPICE
b. Connection Type: Access Point
c. Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) Type: Enabled Use IEEE802.1x (EAP)

9. In Edit Your 802.1x Wireless Network Settings, the setting are as follows:
a. Data Encryption: Enabled 64 bit
b. Wireless Network (WEP) Security keys, Encrypt data transmission
using: Key 1 and Use 10 Hexadecimal Digits (0-9,a-f)
c. Transmit Key 1: Enter any 10 Hex digitsd. Click Authentication Properties button to ensure Enable Internet
Connection Sharing for this connection is uncheck
e. Click Next button for further configuration

10. In Edit Your Internet Explorer Proxy Settings, the setting are as follows
a. My Internet Explorer home page for this location:
http://www.sp.edu.sg
b. Select I want to use my current Internet Explorer proxysettings with this location profile
c. Click Next button for further configuration

11. In Edit Your Security Settings,
a. Select Disable Internet Connection Sharing
b. Click Next button for further configuration

14. Click Yes to apply the new location profile now.

You have to restart your machine to connect to the network.

Part 4: SPICE Wireless Login Script Setup
1. User has to download SPICE Wireless Login Setup from the SPWireless
web site at URL: http://www.sp.edu.sg/cis/wireless.
2. From File Download, open spice_wireless_script.exe as shown.
3. Extract the files to your local directory at c:\

4. To install Wireless Login Script onto your machine, clickinstall.bat from
the extracted directory (C:\SPICE wirless login script).
5. To confirm the Logon script is installed, you will notice that there is a new
Login.bat at the Programs Startup as shown.
