SETF Supports the Formation of Humanitarian Coalition to Send More Aid Into Syria
WASHINGTON-TheSyrianEmergencyTaskForcegivesitfullsupporttothenewcoalitionof
humanitarianorganizationstohelpensureamorespeedytransferofhumanitarianandmedicalaidinto
Syria.Currently,Syriaisexperiencingahumanitariandisasterofunprecedentedlevels.TheSyrian-
Americancommunity–alongwiththegreaterworldwideSyrianexpatriatecommunity-hasbeen
activelyinvolvedinsendinghumanitarianaidandmedicalsuppliesintothecountryasmany
hospitals,pharmaciesandclinicshavebeenclosed,damagedordestroyedbySyriansecurityforces.
SETFreiteratesitcalltoallsegmentsoftheinternationalcommunity,includingtheUnitedNations,
ICRCandindividualnationstoimmediatelygetinvolvedinthishumanitariancrisisanddemanda
humanitariancorridorbeestablishedtoallowforthetransferofaidandmedicalsuppliesinto
Syria-especiallytothestrickencityofHomsandtheregionsofIdlibandHama.
ApressconferencewilltakeplaceonFebruary14 thfrom3:30-4:30pmattheNationalPressClubto
discussthecurrenthumanitariancrisisinSyriaandannouncetheformationofthiscoalition.The
followingorganizationsarelistedascoalitionpartners:SyrianAmericanMedicalSociety(SAMS),
SyrianExpatriateMedicalAssociation(SEMA),UnionofSyrianMedicalReliefOrganizations,The
SyrianBritishMedicalSociety,SyrianExpatriatesOrganization(SEO)andtheSyrianEmergency
TaskForce(SETF).RepresentativesoftheUnionofSyrianMedicalReliefOrganizationsandthe
SyrianAmericanMedicalSocietywillbeonhandtomakestatementsregardingthehumanitarian
crisisinsideSyriaanddiscussthecurrentneedsoftheSyrianpeople.
