TERMS AND ACRONYMS
AD (Active Directory)
It is a central component of the Windows platform services that provides the means to manage the
identities and relationships that make up network environment.
Client/Server
It describes the relationship between two computer programs which the clients relies on the server.
DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)
Is a network protocol that enables a server to automatically assign an IP address to a computer
from a defined range of numbers configured for a given network.
DNS (Domain Name System)
Is a database system that translates a computer's fully qualified domain name into an IP address.
It allows to connect to another networked computer or remote service by using its
user-friendly domain name rather than its numerical IP address.
PXE (Preboot Execution Environment)An environment to boot computers using a network interface
It allows a workstation to boot from a server through network interface
Terminal Services
The sharing of applications and desktops over the network
Is a window-based application service that enables clients to access a server remotely to execute,
process and store data on the server
TFTP (Trivial File Transfer Protocol)It transfers files to and from a remote computer
Used the user Datagram Protocol and provides no security features
It is often used by servers to boot diskless workstations, X-terminals, and routers.
Thin Client
Is a computer or a computer programs which depends on the server itself
UDP (User Datagram Protocol)
Is part of Internet protocol suite, using which, programs running on different computers on a
network can send short messages known as Datagrams to one another.
Is a communication protocol that offers a limited amount of service when messages are exchanged
between computers in a network that uses the Internet Protocol
Windows Server 2003
It is a server operating system produced by Microsoft
It is a computer program that delivers a service to clients.
