Monday 11.1.21 English Warm up
Write as many adjectives as you can
about a dry desert scene. Think about
using all of the five senses.
Short Story
For Monday and Tuesday of this week
you are going to be writing about what
happened next. The story is called
‘Night Terrors in Cairo’ and it is set in
the deserts of Egypt. You will find the
beginning of the story in the
resources. Today you will need to think
what happens next for the museum’s
curator. Remember he is the only one
that knows the secret entrance to the
pyramids. You will need to keep building
up the suspense and continue to use
lots of description in your writing.

PSHCE LI To understand what mental health
means.
Warm up
Draw a mind map of what you believe
mental health is and words that you
associate with it.
Thermometer
Our mental health can be thought of as
being on a scale that can move up or
down, a bit like a thermometer. Mental
health can move anywhere up or down
the thermometer, between being
healthy or unwell. We can all move
along the scale at any time. Use the
thermometer in the resources to help
you think about different scenarios
throughout the lesson.
Activity
Draw an outline of a body on a piece of
paper. Draw how you think you know if
someone feels good in their body
(physical health) and their mind
(mental health).
Then read Jay’s scenario in
Monday’s resources section.
Plot Jay’s mental health on the
thermometer, then suggest ways to
strengthen Jay’s ability to cope, so
that Jay can manage his wellbeing to
avoid moving in to the struggling zone,
and reduce his chances of being in the
unwell area.
Tuesday 12.1.21 English Warm up
How many words can you make out of
these letters?

Monday’s English
Night Terrors in Cairo
The night hung like a curtain. The hot and sticky air was almost impossible to force into your lungs. There
were no lights, everything was black, deathly black. The gritty sand swept across black mambas. Scorpions
lurked in the night shadows.
The darkness was unbearable, the night seeping in through the cacti and submerging the desert in
its pity. There was no sound, nothing dared to move. If fear looked like anything, it would be this.
The petrifying tranquillity was suddenly shattered as a jeep came ploughing over the sand dunes,
headlights flickering like fireflies. Two men sat bolt upright in its tattered seats. The driver was extremely tall
and wiry. His face was a horrible sight, red scars etching his thin face all over. The man next to him was quite
the perfect criminal, a bristly crew-cut skimming his shiny head. He wore a pair of designer sunglasses, even
though it was pitch black, which rested on his repulsive nose - a large chunk of flesh, bone and cartilage had
been lost during an earlier run in. A grim and steely expression showed that nothing would stop him raiding
the Pyramids on this sweltering night.
On the back seat lay a dazed museum curator, his crinkled face covered in plum coloured bruises.
This unfortunate man had been kidnapped at exactly midday whilst busily filing papers at his museum. He
was grabbed by the scruff of his veiny neck and bundled into the jeep. Before any passers-by could take note,
his screams were hastily muffled. He was the only man who knew the secret entrance to the Pyramids of
Cairo.
