Session Level: BasicWho Should Attend: Users of Sage 300 CREPrerequisites: NoneSpecific Learning Objectives: This hands-on lab session will allow users who are new to the Sage system and experienced users new to version 16.1 to practice navigating around Sage 300 CRE Desktop, Sage 300 CRE modules, access data entry screens, viewing inquires, running reports, and setting up favorites. In this session, we will discuss the main differences from previous versions, practice the step-by-step instructions to access the “Favorites” shortcuts and Job Overview reporting provided with Sage 300 CRE Desktop. After completing this class, you will have confidence accessing various data entry screens, websites, and reports
Desktop is a Task Starter: Desktop opens Sage applications, third-party applications, files, and web pages. Desktop also opens selected Sage tasks without opening their associated applications.
Desktop is an Information Source: Desktop home pages give you the information you need to begin your daily tasks
Desktop is a Customizable Workspace:Desktop shows the tasks you specify and gives you quick access to all tasks
What’s the Big Difference?:Desktop 16.1 has some notable layout and verbiage differences from previous versions. Windows 8 and 10 now supported. Updated ODBC driver making reports run faster!

Applications PaneThe Applications pane is a list of Sage applications, application tasks, Web pages, and files.
Favorites PaneThe Favorites pane contains customized shortcuts and groups. Use Favorites to create a custom list of tasks that you frequently use including Application tasks,reports, and inquiries, Files (i.e. documents andspreadsheets), Web links
Home Page PaneThe Home Page pane can display multiple Web pagesand Crystal reports
Sage 300 Desktop: Applications Pane
• The Applications pane is a list of Sage applications, application tasks, Webpages, and files
• You can use the Applications pane to start a task with a single click. There is no longer a “+” expand or “-” to collapse a section, simply click on the section to open or close the section
• Availability of Tasks in the Applications pane: The Applications pane automatically updates to reflect the status of your applications. Tasks may not be available in the Applications pane for the following reasons:o A program was removedo You do not have security permission to use the task. In
this case, the task appears dimmed or does not appear at all (based on your security setting)

Shortcuts: Shortcuts are links to items that are accessible on your computer or on an available network• Types of shortcuts:
• Application: A Sage application or any third-party application
• Application feature: A task within a Sage application• File: File from an external application, i.e. MS Word, Excel• Web page: Web pages do not include your personal
browser favorites, JavaScript is in enabled, all cookies (including Third-Party) are disabled, and Adobe Flash is also enabled. Includes Microsoft Silverlight. Runs on Internet Explorer 11, current version.
Groups: Groups are used to organize shortcuts. All shortcuts must be in a group.
Sage 300 Desktop: Home Pages
A home page opens automatically when you start Desktop. There are four default Web pages that appear• Sage Default• Sage Support page• Sage Construction Project Center page• Sage Service Operations page
There is also an option to display a default Crystal Report. You do not have to have a report display but it is nice to have a job overview report appear when you open Sage Desktop. • To browse home pages go to Options > Desktop Settings,
click Select and browse to available reports**Note: If you open a home page that requires an application you do not have, a “report could not be opened” message appears.
