ALPHA RHO CHI
seshait chapter
The brothers of the SeshaitChapter of Alpha Rho Chi are highly resourceful and extremely motivated professional students. Each brother understands the importance of selflessness and dedication, and these principles guide the principles guide the chapter. A genuine character, a caring heart, and an insatiable drive are things all brothers wear proudly. It is for these reasons that the bond within our brotherhood continues to hold tightly. Our legacy is strong, and the future is bright for an Alpha Rho Chi brother.
-Desmond L. Johnson
Letter from the WA
My fellow brothers:It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that I invite you to look into the great things that Seshait has done this year, as they are detailed in this report. This report is only a glimpse into the hard work, dedication, motivation, and perspiration that our brothers have expelled this year in the name of scholarship, mentorship, professionalism, and brotherhood. I am confident that Seshait has continued to fulfill the mission of Alpha Rho Chi, and the chapter continues to look to you all for guidance, support, and a strong display of brotherhood in the future! My personal experiences with Alpha Rho Chi have been profoundly beneficial inside, as well as outside, the classroom. Long before joining the fraternity, I became acquainted with Alpha Rho Chi as a freshman through the mentorship program. I was assigned a graduate mentor (a brother), and, to this day, I credit that experience for instilling in me the motivation and drive to aim for success in the field of architecture. Since becoming a brother of Alpha Rho Chi, I to aim for success in the field of architecture. Since becoming a brother of Alpha Rho Chi, I have had the rewarding opportunity to mentor lowerclassmen, facilitate professional development workshops, form relationships with practitioners in the field, and serve the community in different capacities. I am excited about the opportunities that Alpha Rho Chi provides, and believe strongly in this fraternity’s mission, goals, and objectives. Therefore, on behalf of the Seshait Chapter, it is my pleasure to give you a glimpse of our chapter, rooted in legacy, honor, and tradition.Sincerely,
Desmond L. Johnson, WAAlpha Rho Chi – Seshait [email protected]

2012-2013 Executive Board
Desmond Leron Johnson, worthy architect
Avary Dawn McCoy, worthy associate architect
“To whom much is given, much is required.” Being tasked as this year’s Worthy Architect was both an exciting and unnerving experience. The experience, however, was one of the richest of my life. I could not be prouder of the strides, challenges, successes, and formed relationships that I witnessed as Seshait continues to annihilate any and all boundaries. Seshait has had my heart from the very beginning, and I was pleased to have the opportunity to serve the chapter as Worthy Associate Architect. As I prepare to graduate this Esther Roger, worthy estimator
Worthy Associate Architect. As I prepare to graduate this semester, I am confident that all brothers have shown great leadership potential and a sincere desire to contribute those skills to the chapter. Seshait has always had my heart, but I can assuredly say that Brotherhood has been fulfilled. This is my third semester serving as Worthy Estimator, and it is undoubtedly a great position. I have to keep in contact with all active brothers and correspond with Alpha Rho Chi’s Worthy Grand Estimator. I enjoy serving on the E-board and have tried my hardest to contribute to the betterment of the fraternity. I love my chapter and my brothers, and I have enjoyed being their 2012-2013 Worthy Estimator.
Tiffany Nicole Williams, worthy scribe
Ashlee Lauren Cooksey, worthy associate scribe
Martavis Marcellus Frazier, worthy clerk
During my tenure in this position, I was able to learn many new things while improving my leadership and communication skills. As Worthy Scribe, I was instrumental in maintaining steady and effective communication with the Grand Council as well as the Seshait Alumni Association. It was a very rewarding position that has groomed me for any future leadership roles.Having the opportunity to serve as Worthy Associate Scribe, I became very familiar with the importance of constant communication with the chapter. In my position, I was the person responsible for ensuring that all brothers in the chapter were “in the know” when it came to important dates, functions, and events.Martavis Marcellus Frazier, worthy clerk
Qui’untae Dawan Bristol, worthy superintendent
As a first time E-board member, I did not know what to expect, or the magnitude of the role I was undertaking. However, I could not have been happier in my position. As Clerk, I had the opportunity to use my photography, videography, and production skills to document chapter events for future enjoyment. It truly aligns with my personal interests, and I had a blast doing it!This year, I have worked to make sure that the chapter has been able to make adjustments to our recruitment processes, both because of the new Florida A&M University guidelines and the Alpha Rho Chi guidelines. I have also made thorough efforts to look at the efficiency of some of the traditional practices. This year, I had the unique pleasure of making sure that the chapter was ready for our part of the first ever Region 8 initiation.

This year’s financial record has been relatively simple to track and maintain with the cooperation of the active chapter. This year, we have realized the importance of budgeting effectively, paying expenses on time, and fundraising whenever possible. Fraternally,Esther Roger, WEAlpha Rho Chi – Seshait [email protected]
Pledge Committee events & activities
This year’s Pledge Committee has had unique challenges to face, particularly due to stringent guidelines pertaining to recruitment placed on the chapter by the university. Our university adopted new policies and procedures that all organizations had to abide by when recruiting. Therefore, the pledge committee was successful in doing a lot of re-evaluating, re-strategizing, and re-organizing our recruitment processes. Even with the new guidelines placed on the chapter, Seshait was successful in recruiting 12 of the School of Architecture’s best and brightest. In Fall of 2012, Alpha Alpha line joined the Seshaitfamily, and the pledge committee was beyond instrumental in ensuring a smooth transition for the dozen new initiates. As the first phase in recruitment, we hosted a week of activities, which included a Game Night/Meet & Greet Social, a Student Art Gallery, a Student/Faculty Luncheon, a Professional Seminar on Social Media, and a Neighborhood Cleanup. These events were geared towards providing arenas where interested students could get to know brothers, and vice versa. The Pledge Committee also put in lots of work in ensuring that the first ever Region 8 joint initiation The Pledge Committee also put in lots of work in ensuring that the first ever Region 8 joint initiation went smoothly and that Seshait was properly prepared.

Professional Devel. Committee events & activities
Realizing that Alpha Rho Chi is a professional fraternity, the Professional Development Committee made many strides to bring professionalism to the forefront.
The Seshait Chapter has implemented several student outreach activities, many under the umbrella of our popular Project Dimensions Program. Throughout the year, the chapter holds
several Project Dimensions workshops and seminars, in which various topics are covered with the goal of benefitting all of the students of the School of Architecture. Some of the topics include, but
are not limited to, tutorials on architectural and graphic software (Revit, AutoCad, SketchUp, Photoshop, etc.), portfolio development, resume writing, interviewing preparation, social media,
and entrepreneurship.

Fundraising Committee events & activities
The Fundraising Committee is instrumental in the success and the day-to-day functioning of the chapter. The Fundraising Committee is responsible for planning, organizing, and facilitating all chapter fundraiser events. In the past year, Seshait has taken fundraising to the next level, raising more funds for the chapter than has been raised in recent history. The Fundraising Committee has worked tirelessly to seek out various fundraising opportunities in addition to planning its own.
DOG DAYS: Every other Friday, the chapter sets up at the front of the School of Architecture and sells hot dogs, sausage dogs, sides, and drinks to students for very reasonable prices.STUDENT LUNCHEONS: Once per month, the chapter organizes luncheons and charges $5 per plate. During the lunch, we usually host a short lecture.
committee chair: Alexandria Davis
host a short lecture. ARAMARK CONCESSIONS: The chapter works with Aramark Dining as a year-long fundraiser. The chapter works concession stands at Florida State University football games and receives a percentage of the profits.TACO DAY: Taco Day is exactly like Dog Day; the only difference is that the chapter sells tacos instead of hot dogs. This is a new fundraiser, but students seem to enjoy it!
Social Committee events & activities
The Social Committee has been hard at work this year promoting a social climate that is both enjoyable and responsible. This committee plans and coordinates all social aspects of the chapter, ranging from our large social events to small chapter gatherings.
committee chair: Tonesha Lee
