    Known Issues Version 16.2, 2019

  • Known Issues in SES Software 16.2

This document presents the known issues in SES Software Version 16.2, including, where applicable, the

corresponding workarounds. Many of these issues will be resolved in the next software update.

    1. Main Programs1.1. SESShield-3D

    Issue Workaround

The Ground Flash Density (GFD) value is notproperly restored within the Shielding FailureAnalysis Settings screen when an SESShield-3Dproject file is loaded.

The Based on Keraunic Level option restoredwithin the Shielding Failure Analysis Settingsscreen has to be used as an alternative forcalculating the GFD, instead of specifying it.

The Ground Interception Volume menu item isdisabled when hiding the Ground InterceptionVolume before restarting the computations.

    1. Click Draw | Hide Analysis Volume.2. Click Draw | Show Analysis Volume . The

Ground Interception Volume command inthe View menu is now available.

    2. Tools and Utilities2.1. GRSplits-3D

    Issue Workaround

Polar coordinates are displayed in theEnergization table in the Properties panel, despiteCartesian being selected as the preferred format.

Refer to the tooltip that appears upon hoveringover a given object; values there are presented inthe intended format.

In the Properties panel and in the tooltips thatappear upon hovering over circuit objects in theViewer, the value displayed for Span Length is infact the value for Section Length. The valuedisplayed for Span Length will nevertheless becorrect so long as the default scaling factor of 1has not been modified (i.e. when Span Length isequal to Section Length) however the value canbe incorrect when this default value has beenmodified.

    None.

    2.2. SESCircuitSimulator

    Issue Workaround

When a file is opened by doing a drag and dropoperation, the F21 file will not be detected, resulting in an empty Examine session.

Open files from the Backstage, using the Openbutton.

In some sections of the Specification panel, it isnot possible to scroll using the mouse wheel. Use the scroll bar.

In the Energization grid, when the Data Format ofa selected row is set to Cartesian, the headers ofthe columns for Phase-to-Neutral Voltages arenot Real Part and Imaginary as they should be, butrather Magnitude and Angle, which correspondsto a Data Format type of Polar.

    None.

Despite the erroneous column headers, the data isnevertheless interpreted correctly.

Deleting a large number of busses can takeexcessive time and may cause a crash or theapplication to not respond.

Delete busses one at a time.

    2.3. SESConverter

    Issue Workaround

Loading large dxf/dwg files can sometimes lead toout-of-memory errors.

Prior to loading the files into SESConverter, theycan be simplified and nonessential elementsremoved from them by using either theCADEditorX tool (which is embedded withinSESConverter) or AutoCAD.

    2.4. SESCrossSection

    Issue Workaround

The Y and Z columns of the Component Locationspanel will not present data using the number ofsignificant digits defined with the Number ofSignificant Digits setting in the Preferences panel.

    None.

Note: The number of digits displayedis nonetheless appropriate.

The setting for Maximum Recent Files Stored, which is located in the Preferences panel, is notworking.

    None.

  • 2.5. SESFFT

    Issue Workaround

When the user attempts to plot Time Domainresults in a Contour-2D format, the results will beplotted in a Spot-2D format. While the latterformat is generally preferred, this behavior doesnot correspond to the user's instructions.

    None.

3D-Perspective plots may show the wrong type ofaxes for the log and percentile representations.

    None.

Avoid using log and percentile representations.

Opening older FFTSES files that include an EXTRACTcommand with a REACH-TOUCH qualifier results inan error message and the erroneous replacementof the qualifier with a new qualifier (CURRENT-LONGITUDINAL) for computing the longitudinalcurrent at the conductor origin. This new qualifieris manifested in the user interface by a cell in theQuantity column of a table (in the Conductors tabof the Conductors and Profiles Selection zone ofthe System Response panel of the Inverse FFTscreen) with the selected quantity: LongitudinalCurrent at Conductor Origin.

Delete the row corresponding to the erroneouscommand from the Quantity column of the tablein the location mentioned at left.

    2.6. SESLibrary

    Issue Workaround

Switching to another GIS/GIL group changes theProperties view for all the GIS/GIL docked panels. None.

Modified flag appears even if no modifications aremade. None.

Number of significant digits in the data grid can bedifferent from the one in the Properties Panel. None.

Conductors exported from SESeBundle toSESLibrary are always at the default frequency of60 Hz, regardless of the frequency that wasspecified in SESeBundle.

    None.

A user-defined item cannot be opened in theProperties panel when an existing item with thesame identification (ID) number and Name isalready open, even if both items belong todifferent databases (e.g. Conductors database andCables database.

    Rename one of the items.

    2.7. SESPlotViewer

    Issue Workaround

When opening a previously saved file, the fontsettings (font family, weight, color, and size) forthe axis labels and the plot legend return to thedefault value.

    None.

The option for centering the legend on the plot isnot functional. None.

    2.8. SESResap

    Issue Workaround

An invalid value error can appear in the Issues Listwhen entering valid data in the last row of a datagrid and terminating the input by clicking awayfrom the cell.

Press the ENTER key to validate and terminate thedata entry on each row.

An invalid value error can appear in the Issues Listwhen entering valid data in the last row of a datagrid and terminating the input by double-clickingon the new empty row at the end of the grid or byclicking on the Add button. In this case, the validentry is displayed as 0 instead of the inputtedvalue.

Press the ENTER key to validate and terminate thedata entry on each row.

Computations can no longer be launched after aprevious run was canceled at the Confirm FileOverwrite dialog.

    Close and restart the application.

Multi-cell edit can populate cells from columnsthat are hidden. Paste or edit the data column by column.

    2.9. SESResultsViewer

    Issue Workaround

When the Save Plot button is used, the obtainedplot could be incorrect if user-defined color levelsare specified.

Use the Plot button to produce the desired plot. This plot can then be saved using the thumbnailmenu.

The default number of color levels is used forGoogle Earth plots, even when the user hasspecified a customized number of color levels.

Alter at least one color level in the Renderingscreen before plotting.

  • 2.10. SESTralin

    Issue Workaround

For files without induction or energizationcommands, the tabs for the Induction andEnergization panels become hidden when theBundle reduction setting is selected or cleared.

To restore the tabs, select Simple mode, and thenreturn to Advanced mode, via the correspondingbuttons in the Specification Mode group of theRibbon.

    2.11. SESTransient

    Issue Workaround

When a new HIFREQ template for the activescenario is created through SESCAD, the SoilModel Data panel is not refreshed as expected.

Reopen the current project to activate the SoilModel Data panel.

Results can take some time to load; if anotherproject is opened or created while results are stillloading, these results will be shown in the 3DViewer instead of the results of the project whoseresults were originally loading.

Reopen the same project once the 3D Viewer isdone loading (there will be no data loss).

Note that, in general, it is preferable for the resultsto be loaded prior to opening a different project orcreating a new one.

    2.12. TransformerDataEditor

    Issue Workaround

Star-ZigZag and Delta-ZigZag transformers do notautomatically synchronize the applicable inputfields for the secondary and tertiary windings.

    1. For the Test Data option, ensure that thedata entered in the Primary to Tertiary rowin the Impedance and Short Circuit Testtables are the same as that defined in thecorresponding Primary to Secondary row.

    2. For the Impedance Matrix option, ensurethat the Self Impedance values on theTertiary row are equal to those defined onthe Secondary row, and that the MutualImpedance values defined in the Primary toTertiary row are equal to those defined inthe Primary to Secondary row.

Errors related to variables that are only relevantwhen the Reference Data Type is set to Test Datacontinue to appear in the Issues List panel whenthe Reference Data Type is set to ImpedanceMatrix.

    None.

The variables that are mentioned in these errormessages are not used for the Impedance Matrixrepresentation; the errors can be ignored.
