This was not a quiet night as we all strove to knock those pins down. Once again it was well supported by members, partners and friends and was well organized by Richard Jones who is rolling out a great Fel- lowship program (see photos on pages 6 /7). The theme is “The most Good you can do for your Rotary $”. I will be attending I hope with a few other members! Then on Sunday we have the Beaumaris Concourse Car and Bike Show. Again well done to Cunnington and her Daffodil Day team for another good result (see page 2). And thank you again to Mer- chant Beaumaris for donating the flowers. In my last report I failed to comment Gabe Denemark who came to speak to us about the NBN which was reported on fully by IN GEAR. My lack of comment in no way reflects a lack of interest in, or appreciation of, Gabe's presentation which was yet another jewel in the Speaker program Gail An- derson has arranged for us. President's Report

We had a relatively quiet week for our Club with a great night of 10 Pin Bowling on Thursday night. This was not a quiet night as we all strove to knock those pins down. Once again it was well supported by members, partners and friends and was well organized by Richard Jones who is rolling out a great Fel-lowship program (see photos on pages 6 /7).

If you want to check out your bowling style you can see all 120 photos which Max Darby took on the evening on the Photos 2019 2010 page of our private Members section of the Club website. Contact David Lea if you need access details.

This week is again a busy one with The Sandringham College Interviews on Monday, the usual meeting at VGC with John Manks telling us about his Antarctica trip and the International Services Seminar on Friday at 6:30 pm for 6:45 pm start, at the Melbourne Baseball Club - Surrey Park, Surrey Dr, Box Hill. The theme is “The most Good you can do for your Rotary $”. I will be attending I hope with a few other members! Then on Sunday we have the Beaumaris Concourse Car and Bike Show.

Again well done to Cunnington and her Daffodil Day team for another good result (see page 2). And thank you again to Mer-chant Beaumaris for donating the flowers.

In my last report I failed to comment Gabe Denemark who came to speak to us about the NBN which was reported on fully by IN GEAR. My lack of comment in no way reflects a lack of interest in, or appreciation of, Gabe's presentation which was yet another jewel in the Speaker program Gail An-derson has arranged for us.

Daffodil Day Stall Outcome

Thank you to all who volunteered and worked on the stall last weekend. And especially to Ken for moving the items to and from storage for us.

Fortunately, the weather was kind to us.

We raised $ 2,441.35 for the Cancer Council.

Although a little lower than last year it was still a good re-sult.

Indian Opportunity Number Two: We invite you, your club members and families to join us in India in Feb. 2020, to participate in a Water Conserva-tion project: the construction of a check-dam at the edge of the Thar Desert. Note: Your club’s contribution to the project costs is not required, as it will be funded by a Global Grant from the Rotary Foundation, with generous DDF participation from RI Districts in Australia and USA. Benefits Check-dams, once built, require little or no mainte-nance or recurring costs. Each year, the Dam will trap monsoon rainwater which otherwise flows away without benefitting the local people. The retained water will trickle down through the Earth’s layers to raise the Groundwater table in this area over the next few months: well in-time to boost crop production over a ten sq.km radius from the very next year - and for many decades ahead! With one Masterstroke, this mega-project will strike at the core of social deprivation to provide:

Sustainable Incomes Sanitation & Health Education & Equal Opportunity

For Rotarians and their families, this project will provide a unique opportunity to: Discover Incredible India Connect the World Make a Difference Be the Inspiration for local communities Centuries of failed crops had crushed the Will of the local people to participate in projects for the general good of their communities. Since 2010, Rotarians from around the world have joined us on these projects to help the local people for a few days in the construction these dams. Our hands-on participation, as well as the success of these projects, is changing this defeatist perception. Many Rotarians have enjoyed these projects, and the con-nect with India, so much that they come year after year. Nearly twenty years ago, when I traveled to India for the very first time to immunize children against polio, I found a part of my soul in Incredible India! Each year since then, I have led these teams of Rotarians from all over the world

for hands-on work on multiple projects in India. We have changed the lives of thousands of villagers. Our Lives, too, have been changed forever - by the warm welcome and rich traditions of the people of India that reveal ancient, abiding, universal Truths. For those with a time constraint, one of the trip options includes only the Project section. For others who would like to explore more of the magic of India, a combination of extension tours is available before and after the project. The extension tours have been carefully crafted to present not only the fabled Art & Architecture of ancient India but also the Living Cultures of India today. Please share the attached document with all the members of your club! Those who wish to join the project – please email the Trip Application before Sep. 15, 2019 to [email protected]. The Trip Application form is provided on the last two pag-es of the attached document (see below). We look forward to working with you on this fun project!

Documentation has been circulated along with a prior In Gear.
