As we move into fall, the air becomes cooler and the days are shorter! :)I always look forward to the slightly cooler temperatures, cool but not exactly cold. The smell and taste of the fair foods, music, sitting with friends and family around a campfire and so much more.

There are still as many events going on during this time of year than I can ever fit into the pages of the magazine. I send a lot of people to the website which is updated weekly and

the facebook page which is updated several times a day.

If you have not seen this magazine before, I want to welcome you to these pages. The focus of this magazine is on local events for Ashland, Richland and Crawford Counties. The events that I cannot share into these pages will be shared on the website and facebook which are at www.ncoeventsmag.com and https://www.facebook.com/NCO-Events-Magazine

If you know of any local events I have not posted, please feel free to share either on the facebook page or by emailing it to me and I will make sure it gets shared. :o)

Thank You & God Bless. ~ Rosanna Ramirez [email protected] • 419-709-6463

Editors Corner CONTENT CONTRIBUTORS– Juan Ramirez is also known as Cyberlobo and is the writer of the column “The Penguins Cave”. He is well known for constantly tinkering with all types of electronic gadgets and everything Linux. He enjoys anything tech related – tamales, tacos and cows too. Especially cows. Fried.

– Clint Hardin knows that no matter what choice of camera; the heart takes the best pictures. This is why he named his photography services; “The Window Heart Collection”. Clint’s photographs have been displayed at The Mansfield Art Center, and can also be found at, BibleWalk, Art Space,

Main Street Books, and in Galion Ohio; The Evergreen, and H&K Watkins Beauty and Wellness. Clint is a lifelong resident of Mansfield. Clint and his wife, Julia, have been married for 40 years.

Stan co-owns and operates Valleyview Country Getaway, located in the Possum Run valley with his wife Diana. He has served on a variety of corporate boards including the American Hockey League Hampton Gulls, a pharmacy chain, an art’s & craft chain, and Habitat for Humanity and recently was employed at NCSC as a physics, chemistry, and speech tutor. He is an Ambassador for the Chamber of Commerce, a member of Destination Mansfield, and is a Master Gardener.

In his words: “I have always enjoyed technical writing, but anything beyond was pure terror. My first and only venture into journalism was when I was appointed co-editor of my grade school newspaper. Things changed when I returned to college again in 2012. An awakening occurred and I realized that words could be used to paint both factual and emotional pictures. My goal is to both inform and amuse in an understandable manner.”

– Ann Bowling is a mother of four and a grandmother to eleven and great-grandmother to ten and

great, great grandmother now! She is an avid reader of the good book (Bible) and the strong moral center of her family (she keeps us all in line!) Ann enjoys managing a prayer group on facebook, reading and bargain hunting.

What if I told you that you could potentially live longer, be more attractive, be happier, and enhance your business by simply reading this article? Your first reaction most likely would be ‘what’s the catch’ or ‘what’s the cost’, but there is no catch or cost. It’s free! The answer is not a pill or potion, but a simple genuine ‘smile’.

A smile is the world’s most powerful gesture. Dale Carnegie said “the expression one wears on one’s face is far more important than the clothes one wears on ones back”. We naturally find people who smile more attractive and approachable, and the best part is that it is contagious. We have all had experiences where we might have been in a less than perfect mood and along comes a friend or acquaintance who with a simple grin changes the entire dynamics of the moment.

Science supports the power of the smile. There are two potential muscle groups we engage when we smile, the first group controls the corners of your mouth. If this is the only group activated it is called a ‘social smile’, perceived as not a genuine expression, but a fake smile. However, if the second set of muscles is engaged which surrounds the eye sockets, you have the real deal. This type of smile is called the Duchenne smile, named after the mid-19th century French neurologist Guillaume Duchenne, who first recognized the two types. Our brain is able to easily distinguish between the two. More importantly our brain attempts to mimic the smile of another to distinguish between the two types.

Numerous studies have conclusively demonstrated the benefits of smiling. One study followed the lives of women pictured in their yearbook photos. Those with the genuine smiles statistically had happier, more productive lives than the others. Another, called the baseball card study, compared the longevity of the players who, again, flashed a genuine smile against those who didn’t. You probably already guessed, they lived longer, on average 7 years. Being around children makes most of us just feel a bit happier, the reason being that children on average smile about 400 time a day, while we adults mark a dismal 20. Boo!

Better than Chocolate!

Ok, so you are naturally not a smiley type of person, well, there is still hope for you, practice. Get in front of the mirror and crank out your best rendition of a smile, you will almost immediately feel a response of happiness and relaxation. Continue practicing, and soon that contrived smile will become the real article, and you will feel better for doing it.

Women naturally smile more than men. They are more accurate at detecting what’s going on with someone by observing their facial expressions and listening to their voice. This might be a clue for us to think happy thoughts ‘before’ picking up the phone, the person on the other end of the conversation can ‘hear’ your smile. This is a technique used by better telemarketing firms and receptionist training courses.

So the bottom line is: be happier, live longer, be more attractive, demonstrate a positive attitude, and maybe change the world a little by just simply smiling. Oh, about that chocolate thing, a smile is more rewarding to your brain than the well regarded pleasure inducer ‘chocolate’, and it’s less fattening. A line from the song made famous by Louis Armstrong, “smile and the whole world smiles with you” may say it best. Just simply smile ☺! ~ Stan

Friday, November 3, 2017What’s Your Passion? - Main Street Books, Mansfield6 PM - 8 PM - 104 N Main St, Mansfield, Ohio 44902The evening consists of several OSU-Mansfield professors and several Mansfield community members explaining something they’re passionate about to us. Each person has five to ten minutes to explain what they care about most. The subject of each talk need not be what the speaker teaches or does as a profession; in fact, many of them will not be.

The range of subjects is wide and wild! The line-up of speakers currently includes Susan Delagrange, Cindy Fowler, Tracy Graziani, Norman Jones, Daniel Roemer, Poggo Scopas, David Tovey, and Josh Werner.

The ultimate goal behind “What’s Your Passion?” is to not only provide an interesting and enlightening evening for the people of Mansfield, but to also bring the worlds of downtown Mansfield and the OSU branch campus closer together. Pooling our resources is an obvious step toward the ambition of strengthening our entire community.

I waited patiently for the lord; and he inclined to me, and heard my cry.He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps.~Psalm 40:1-2 ~♥~

Trust in God. Trust him he knows what you are going through. He is the only one who can put your broken heart together.

Psalm 91:1-2 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust.
