____________________________On The Cover______________________________Volunteers at WHIP Food Pantry in Washington join Connected Magazine to kickoff for our first Food Drive. During the month of February, we invite you to stop by the Washington American Legion at 211 Legion Road to drop off donations for the pantry. Help us to help fill the pantry!

Welcome back to another edition of Community Spotlight. This month we meet up with Washington Helps Its People, or more commonly known as WHIP.

WHIP was first started in December 1982 as Christmas baskets were

prepared to help Washington residents impacted by the Caterpillar strike. By February 1983, WHIP opened their doors to serve those in need in the 61571 zip code.

In May of 2015, WHIP moved to their current location at Mount Vernon Square, 1253 Peoria Street. It is ADA compliant, has room for storage of inventory, and is centrally located in Washington. At the time of the move, they added a second distribution time on Wednesdays from 4:30 p.m. - 6 p.m. to accommodate people who need assistance, but could not get there during the 8:30 a.m. - 11 a.m. time frame.

WHIP has no paid employees and has always been staffed by a team of volunteer Washington residents concerned for their fellow citizens. They have about 25 regular volunteers who help every first and third Wednesday, plus a backup list of others who are available when extra help is needed. On giveaway days the volunteers help the clients select food, carry food to their car, keep the shelves stocked, pack bags that are delivered to clients who can’t drive, and help date check and sort donations that come in.

WHIP is supported through food and monetary donations by 12 churches (many collect items to stock their shelves on a monthly or quarterly basis), businesses, civic organizations, clubs and schools in Washington and surrounding communities. Washington High School Impact Students also help pick up food once a month from Aldi’s and Lindys. In addition, WCHS Leadership Students host food drives, along with collecting and delivering food.

What drives the volunteers? Lori Weston, President, states she was looking for a volunteer opportunity and read that WHIP was going to close if no one took over the leadership. She felt called to the ministry and asked Julie Weston to join her. “Volunteering at WHIP is a way

to give back to our community and help our neighbors.”

During the month of February, Connected Magazine will be holding a Food Drive. Please stop in at the American Legion Post 100 located at 211 Legion Road in Washington to drop off your donations. We hope you understand the need to keep our local pantry stocked with food.

After the holidays, the need is still there but the donations become less. Hunger does not know a season, and your help is appreciated year round by many families that have a need for some assistance.

WHIP hopes to continue to reach more people in need, especially those with children. They feel incredibly blessed to be a part of a generous community, and amazed by such an amazing group of dedicated volunteers!

NanoCrystal Electricity Technology Is HereTesla had always dreamed about producing wireless electricity to every home. His technology was incredible, but his device was impractical, inefficient and expensive. No one used it and Tesla’s dream died with him in 1943.

Seventy-five years after Tesla’s death, his dream has been brought back to life by NanoCrystal Technology. To many people, electricity without wires seems very far fetched. Thanks to the very superior technology of today, a brilliant scientist has discovered how to transmit electricity through the air. Unlike Tesla’s device, this technology is practical, efficient and inexpensive.

In 2018, you will begin to see a growing number of NanoCrystal technology’s being used. Wireless charging stations have been in use for a few years now. With the advancement of NanoCrystal Technology, the use of wireless electricity will change the world we live in.

For more information on this technology and to learn about its capabilities, simply Google “NanoCrystal Technology” and explore this new area of science!

MTCO digiMAX customers: Settle in for another free HBO and Cinemax FREE Preview weekend starting at 6 a.m. on Friday, February 16th through midnight on Monday, February 19th.

WCHS Robotics TeamWashington High School’s Robotics Team ”Mechanical Monarchy 5442” is starting off their fourth year in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC).

The theme for the competition for 2018 was released on January 6th this year titled: FIRST Power Up. Inspired by video games, the objective of this year’s competition is to build a robot that can manipulate cubes and place them on switches to gain control of the scales, which earns teams points. In the final round of the game, robots can climb a small rod to “Meet the Boss.”

FIRST only gives teams six weeks to design, build, and program a robot. Mechanical Monarchy united its 46 members as a team, and is making great headway on this years’ robot.

Members of the community who would like to see the progress that the team has made are invited to our open house on Saturday, March 10th from 10 a.m. - noon.

To see the robot in action, their first competition is on Friday, March 16th and Saturday, March 17th at Bradley University. Admission to this event is free.

To contact or find out more about the team, visit their website at: https://sites.google.com/a/wacohi.net/panther-engineering/.

MTCO Data PlansData is one of the questions we are asked the most. In short, data is information. Every email sent, movie watched, and video game played is made up of information. This information is measured in bytes (kilobytes, megabytes, terabytes or gigabytes) and is transferred two ways – internet network to your computer (download) or from your computer to the internet (upload) — in a given period of time.

As of January 1st, MTCO includes 1 terabyte of data with all of our internet service products. This is enough data for 99% of our customers. If certain customers find they are using their internet connection more robustly, we do have higher data plans available (2TB and Unlimited). If you have any further questions regarding data or your data plan, please call our Customer Service Representatives at 800-859-6826.
