CHILDREN’S FEST 2017
ISSUE 51J U N E 2017
The Resident Community (RC) from Zhenghua-Jelapang and Admiralty Zone 4 have helped out in the event to lift the joys of more than 4,000 children and families. Moreover, the Ministry of Social and Family Development has contributed to the goodies bags, while ITE College West has collaborated with New Life by managing sound system as well as the background music.
Despite being a sunny and warm day, the volunteers served with a giving spirit and welcoming smiles to conceal their fatigue. Their paybacks were greeted with happy faces on the kids and their families that reaffirms New Life’s mission to mentor the next generation in forging friendship for a lasting difference.

Sunshine, laughter and grateful hearts are the lasting memories that the participants took home after attending New Life Children’s Fest 2017.
Held on the 2nd April Sunday morning, Children Festival was concurrently held at Woodlands and Jelapang Square. The event offered a host of game stations to celebrate children and family bonding. Children’s Fest 2017 is one of New Life’s major events, catering to bring community closer together revolving around the theme, “Friends in Unity”.
“This is becoming a signature event in our community calendar. Many young families with kids come by to enjoy a day of outing and bonding with their neighbours.” said Mr Liang Eng Hwa, MP for Holland-Bukit Timah GRC (Zhenghua).

To inculcate the love of reading, New Life Childcare @ Woodlands collaborated with the National Library Board for 30 K1 and K2 students to tour the library facilities. The children were entertained with a dramatic story telling session. In addition, craft works sessions were conducted for the children to demonstrate their creativity.
On 13 April afternoon, a group of 62 children from our New Life Student Care celebrated Easter at the chapel. They participated in Easter egg-hunting games, made Easter pop-up cards and last but not least, listened to Mr Joshua Wong, our invited guest, shared how Jesus died on the Cross on Good Friday but was resurrected on Easter Sunday. The children enjoyed themselves thoroughly and ended the day with munching delicious chocolate eggs.

You can be like Shi Hua and engage the community by serving in our other programs
WHAT’S NEXTKidsSTOP ExcursionCHILDCAREA group of about 70 children, parents and staff from New Life Childcare @ Junction 10, went on a KidsSTOP field trip in March. The primary objective was to encourage children to learn through inquiry and play. Some of the themes incorporated during this trip were shadows, lights, colours, animals and their habitats. It was a great experience for both the kids and their parents.
“To look past the early hours and hot weather,” is one of the things I have learnt from my volunteering experience in Children's Fest 2017.
Indeed, the reward of serving was an enjoyable one as my cell group and I brought out our “child-likeness” in testing the games as well as engaging the community in the game stations.
Initially, I came to know about Children's Fest 2017 through CEFC's broadcast and bulletin. This was my second time serving in Children’s Fest. My Cell Group Leader strongly encouraged all of us to serve as a team. As it was a great opportunity for the cell group to serve the Lord and community together, thus most of us signed up for it.
On the actual day, my cell group and I served in one of the game booths and I managed to spot some of my neighbours staying near Bukit Panjang
at the Children's Fest event. It was great to be able to serve them in such an environment, where barriers were broken and relationship with my neighbours was forged stronger. Thus, the second thing that I learnt is “to take every opportunity in New Life’s outreach programs to sow into the lives of these children and their families.”
“So far, Children’s Fest provided a chance for me to speak words of encouragement and affirmation to the children as they played the games. I was glad that we could serve together and play a part in this event!” ~ Shi Hua.
