Opening Sentences

Hymn “Great is thy Faithfulness”

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;

There is no shadow of turning with Thee;

Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;

As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

Refrain

Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!

Morning by morning new mercies I see.

All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;

Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,

Sun, moon and stars in their courses above

Join with all nature in manifold witness

To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Refrain

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth

Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;

Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,

Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Leader: God, investigate my life; get all the facts firsthand. I'm an open book to you;

even from a distance, you know what I'm thinking.

Congregation: You know when I leave and when I get back; I'm never out of

your sight. You know everything I'm going to say before I start the first sen-

tence.

Leader: I look behind me and you're there, then up ahead and you're there, too—

your reassuring presence, coming and going.

Congregation: This is too much, too wonderful— I can't take it all in!

Leader: Is there any place I can go to avoid your Spirit? To be out of your sight? If I

climb to the sky, you're there! If I go underground, you're there!

Congregation: If I flew on morning's wings to the far western horizon, you'd

find me in a minute — you're already there waiting!

Leader: Then I said to myself, "Oh, he even sees me in the dark! At night I'm im-

mersed in the light!" It's a fact: darkness isn't dark to you; night and day, darkness

and light, they're all the same to you.

Congregation: Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in

my mother's womb. I thank you, High God—you're breathtaking! Body and

soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration—what a creation!

Leader: You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know

exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something.

All: Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the

stages of my life were spread out before you, the days of my life all prepared

before I'd even lived one day.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the

beginning, it is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Hymn “Higher than I” O safe to the Rock that is higher than I, My soul in its conflicts and sorrows would fly, So sinful, so weary, Thine, Thine, would I be, Thou blest Rock of Ages, I’m hiding in Thee! Refrain Hiding in Thee, hiding in Thee, Thou blest Rock of Ages, I’m hiding in Thee. In the calm of the noontide, in sorrow’s lone hour, In times when temptation casts o’er me its power; In the tempests of life, on its wide, heaving sea, Thou blest “Rock of Ages,” I’m hiding in Thee. Refrain How oft in the conflict, when pressed by the foe, I have fled to my refuge and breathed out my woe; How often, when trials like sea billows roll, Have I hidden in Thee, O Thou Rock of my soul. Refrain

A. Moses Benguche Affirmation of Faith The Apostles’ Creed I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pon-tius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy, catholic Church; the Communion of Saints; the forgiveness of sins; The resurrection of the body, and the life ever-lasting. Amen. Hymn of Affirmation “Through the love of God our Saviour” Through the love of God our Savior, All will be well; Free and changeless is His favor; All, all is well. Precious is the blood that healed us; Perfect is the grace that sealed us; Strong the hand stretched out to shield us; All must be well.

I n C e l e b r a t i o n

Though we pass through tribulation, All will be well; Ours is such a full salvation; All, all is well. Happy still in God confiding, Fruitful, if in Christ abiding,

Holy through the Spirit’s guiding, All must be well.

We expect a bright tomorrow; All will be well;

Faith can sing through days of sorrow, All, all is well.

On our Father’s love relying,

Jesus every need supplying,

Or in living, or in dying, All must be well.

Benediction

Recessional Hymn “And can it be that I should gain”

And can it be that I should gain

An interest in the Savior’s blood?

Died He for me, who caused His pain—

For me, who Him to death pursued?

Amazing love! How can it be,

That Thou, my God, should’st die for me?

Amazing love! How can it be,

That Thou, my God, should’st die for me?

’Tis mystery all: the Immortal dies:

Who can explore His strange design?

In vain the firstborn seraph tries

To sound the depths of love divine.

’Tis mercy all! Let earth adore,

Let angel minds inquire no more.

’Tis mercy all! Let earth adore;

Let angel minds inquire no more.

W i t h l o v e

He left His Father’s throne above

So free, so infinite His grace—

Emptied Himself of all but love,

And bled for Adam’s helpless race:

’Tis mercy all, immense and free,

For O my God, it found out me!

’Tis mercy all, immense and free,

For O my God, it found out me!

Long my imprisoned spirit lay,

Fast bound in sin and nature’s night;

Thine eye diffused a quickening ray—

I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;

My chains fell off, my heart was free,

I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

My chains fell off, my heart was free,

I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

No condemnation now I dread;

Jesus, and all in Him, is mine;

Alive in Him, my living Head,

And clothed in righteousness divine,

Bold I approach the eternal throne,

And claim the crown, through Christ my

own.

Bold I approach the eternal throne,

And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

Please join us for the repast and a time of

sharing in the Church’s Fellowship Hall

immediately following the service.

HE LEAVES By Ivion Davis

And he leaves, like a whisper, just like a soft sigh.

That belies her monumental life

She lets go of your hand, of your smile, of your face.

Yet she carries all of you with her as a comfort, a

partner on her journey.

Yes he leaves, not so suddenly, maybe not so

un-expectedly, Yet you can’t let go, you are not

ready to let go, The pain of your separation is

almost too much it seems, Your very strength to

go on hangs in the balance.

As she leaves, and your heart breaks,

As your chest walls cave in on each other,

Let the mist from your tears peer through the

glimmer, And you see that every moment with her

was such an exquisite gift.

And so she leaves, but wait, just see,

She is not gone, for she is you, your smile, and your

exuberant laughter. She is the gentle wind that

caresses your face, as you drive at midnight,

The dew that soaks your feet in the soft morning

grass, As the birds minister to you in the early dawn

And so, she has not really left, HE IS STILL HERE
