This integrated solution offers an additional advantage: the vewting tank is equipped with a temperature sensor. The lack of separate sensors installed in th(, flow minimises the resis- tance of the circuit. The new cooling system is re('ommended in particular for retrofitting of feed pumps in the medium and high capacity ranges whose high circumferen- tial speeds often lead to da- maged seal faces. Tested by immersion in sy]~thetic ester at a temperature of ll0°C at 315 bar, the materi al showed signs of ageing after 2000 hours. Standard polyur- ethane sealing materials, when tested similarly at 100°C, suf- fered 50% reduction in tensile strength after 500 hours and total destruction after 1000 hours. Economos says that the re- suits of its new development shows that designers can now confidently specify ecologically sound synthetic ester based hydraulic fluids when applied with Seal-Jet seals manufac- tured from H-Ecopur material and that such combinations will provide exceptional long life in excess of 100 000 cycles. The new ester based hydraulic fluids are fully bio-degradable in soil, whereas traditional mineral oils permanently contaminate soil and natural surface and under- ground water supplies if acci- dentally spilled. In Germany alone, it has been estimated that about 35 thousand billion litres of water are permanently contaminated every year by the accidental spillage of mineral hydraulic fluids.
