SHINING STARS
Elli Hanlon played on the Williamstown third grade girl’s championship basketball team this year. Tyson Maze placed second in his category in the school science fair and he made the 7th/8th grade Edison basketball team. Brynn Oblisk got first place for 2nd grade in her category and first place in her category for the whole school in the science fair.
HOPE Hope, in the Bible, is from the Greek word “elpis”. Biblical
hope is not the same as the hope we speak of often today but has more to do with expectations.
In our current use of the word hope the definition is wish-ful thinking. I hope I get the gift I want for Christmas. I hope I get the promotion at work. We use it in reference to something we would like to see but are uncertain as to the realistic likeli-hood of our expectation. By that definition we can hope all day long and never get anything positive. Hope then can actually de-press us if it is unrealized.
Biblical hope is an entirely different animal. Hope in the Bi-ble really is associated with a confident expectation of some-thing. “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness…” we have a realistic expectation of the good things He promised because of the blood He shed and the right-eous life He lived. Hope, in this instance, is reassuring and brings about joy and peace. It does not depress one to place his joy in Christ Jesus, it renews his soul and uplifts his spirit know-ing the assurity with which he can face tomorrow because God already won the future.
I hope you have this hope in you. If not I hope you’ll find hope in Jesus Christ. “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in be-lieving, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13)

Perfect Love
Someone wrote the following description of true love: Slow to suspect—quick to trust, Slow to condemn—quick to justify, Slow to offend—quick to defend, Slow to expose—quick to shield, Slow to reprimand—quick to forbear, Slow to belittle—quick to appreciate, Slow to demand—quick to give, Slow to provoke—quick to conciliate, Slow to hinder—quick to help, Slow to resent—quick to forgive. No doubt, this description reminds us of the one given by Paul in 1 Corinthians13:4-7: “Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not be-have rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
“The greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13
