SERMON NOTES March 1, 2020 1705 SE Marshall, Albert Lea MN 56007
office: 507-373-1533 www.newlifechristianal.org
Good morning and welcome as we embrace together this
wonderful opportunity for friendship, fellowship, and lifting up our praise in the worship of our Lord!
Blind Spots: Blinded by Jealousy The process of transformation Romans 12:1-2 1. It is said that envy is the desiring of something possessed by someone
else that you do not have; jealousy is the fear that what you have is desired by someone else and that they will take it from you.
2. Jealousy: A feeling of resentful longing aroused by someone else’s possessions, qualities, or luck.
3. Jealousy and envy are both products of the sin, “to covet.” 4. Jealousy, when your thoughts begin with, “I wish I…..” 5. Craig Groschel: “The fastest way to destroy the joy of something
special is to compare it to something else.” 6. Satan wants you to compare other people’s highlight reels to your own
blooper reels, and to feel discouraged or defeated. 7. Jealousy says that God has been, or is being, unfair to me. 8. Jealousy is living in the Land of “ER.” (I want to be: tall-ER,
thinn-ER, young-ER, rich-ER, smart-ER, bett-ER, bright-ER, pretti-ER, etc.) The Land of “ER” is the place where you will never live up to your own expectations or anyone else’s for that matter. In the Land of “ER” comparison is King.
9. Jealousy says, “Hey God, why them and why not me?” 10. Jealousy: the root of sin for Adam and Eve as well as for Cain killing
Abel. 11. Jealousy is nurtured with a misplaced spirit of competition.
1 Corinthians 13:4 Love is patient, love is kind, love is not jealous… 12. Jealousy is nurtured with a misplaced spirit of competition.
Was there a spirit of competition among the disciples? Mark 9:33-37 Was there a spirit of competition between Peter and John? John 20-21 Jesus makes it very clear that HE is the Lord, they BOTH work for HIM! John 21:22
Last Week’s Memory Verse: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
Memory Verse: Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things! Colossians 3:2
