Serendipity Sandy Gervais I went to market solely to market my patterns. We sold more patterns than I ever imagined we would. We had brought patterns with us to deliver at market and we sold out the first day. It was a very successful market – people were buying my pat- terns! e second day of market Mr. Dunn and Cheryl Freydberg, stopped by my booth ask about designing fabric for Moda. Serendipity – the rest is history. I love to have a bag of chocolate nearby while designing. My favorite chocolates are Ethel M Chocolates – especially the raspberry filled ones. ey are kind of expensive to eat by the handful on a busy day of creating. So most of the time I have to settle for Brach’s Bridge Mix. I also have to be surrounded by fabric. After I finish each project I clear off all the cut- ting and sewing tables and put all of the bolts of fabric away. Before I start to design a new project, I just have to lay out some fabric, and them some more fabric, and some more fabric and pretty soon I have as much fabric laying out as there was before I tidied up. But by then the creative juices are flowing and it’s a whole new project. Color Forms were bright colored vinyl shapes that would stick to a black background. e first ones where just circles, squares and triangles. You would have to create your own objects using the shapes. Later they started making the objects for you, which totally took the creativity out of it. e neighbor kids had the original set and a set that was all farm yard items. However, I preferred to play with the circles, squares and triangles. I also really wanted to own a box of 48 crayons. I didn’t, so I would blend the colors to make my own variety of colors. Maybe that is why I can see a color and start mix- ing paint until I get just the color.
