    ADJECTIVES

    Adjectives are words that modify (describe) a noun or pronoun.

    There are two main categories: limiting and descriptive. Limiting always come before the word they modify, while

    Descriptive come afterthe word they modify.Limiting adjectives are numbers, quantity (mucho, poco), demonstratives

    (este, esta), possessives (mi, tu, su) and articles (el, la, un, unos). Descriptives refer to size, color, quality, nationality, etc.

    Jorge es muy guapo. George is very handsome.Susana es baja. Susan is short.Javier es atltico. Xavier is athletic.

    Yo tengo unos libros interesantes. I have some interesting books.Enrique come unas comidas exticas. Henry eats some exotic foods.Mi casa es pequea. My house is small.

    Adjectives fall into three (3) subcategories: those ending in O,those ending in E, and those ending in a consonant. Thoseending in O drop the O and add A for the feminine, and add Sfor the plural.bueno buena buenos buenasbajo baja bajos bajas

    Those ending in E or A have the same form for masculine and feminine andadd S to form the plural.elegante elegantes realista realistas

    interesante interesantes pesimista pesimistas

    Those ending in a consonant have the same form for masculine andfeminine. For the plural they add ES.popular populares azul azulescomn comunes leal leales

    EXCEPTIONS: Adjectives ending in Z form the plural bychanging the Z to C and then adding ES.feliz felices audaz audacesferoz feroces precoz precoces

    Nationality adjectives that end in a consonant add A for the feminine, ES forthe masculine plural, and AS for the feminine plural.espaol espaola espaoles espaolasfrancs francesa franceses francesas

    Josefina es bonita. Josephine is pretty.

    Mario es inteligente. Mario is intelligent.

    La casa es grande. The house is big.

    Las flores son elegantes. The flowers are elegant.

    Los libros son interesantes. The books are interesting.

    Mnica y Rita son simpticas. Monica and Rita are nice.

    Arturo y Ramn son fuertes. Arturo and Ramon are strong.
