Today’s second reading from First
Corinthians is a popular selection for
wedding Masses. While it is a beautiful
explanation of the many aspects of love,
most couples are surprised to learn that
Paul was fairly upset with the
Corinthians. Whichever example Paul
uses for love, it is safe to assume the
Corinthians were doing the opposite.
Love is one characteristic of God which
humans are able to imitate (although
Imperfectly). Paul’s frustration with the
community came from them being self-
absorbed with their spiritual gifts and not
sharing them for the good of others. As
God shares his love with us, we are
charged with sharing that which we have
received with others. May we always do
our best (even imperfectly) to imitate God!

New Year Bible Study
The conflicts of the early Christians in Corinth are in many ways similar to our struggles today as Christians. They, too, witnessed division, scandal, immorality, persecution and other trials. In response, St. Paul taught the Corinthians about the Church as the Body of Christ, introducing them to the most powerful gift of all: the Eucharist. Join us in the Study of First Corinthians: The Church and the Christian Community. We meet in the small conference room across from office beginning January 8 at 7:00 pm every Tuesday ~ last class on March 5. St. Paul’s Church in Nampa is offering Confirmation Series for Adults The series will consist 7 sessions. This series will be for adults who are baptized and not attending high school.
