Norco Fair 2019

September General Meeting Fair Appreciation Recognition

Yes! The fair is over and we did it again! Thanks to our volunteers, NHA earned $4000.00. Over 30 people volunteered their time to help make this year’s fair a success. We sold over 5,000 buttons! Special thanks go to the following people that worked all the shifts of the fair this year:

Mikayla Ball, Sharon Chandler, Joy Chase, Darrell Cravy, Jeannie Hallgrimson, Jeff Jones, Randy Miller, Bill Naylor, and Bonnie Slager.

Each year we give out gift certificates to the volunteers (excluding board members) that donated the most hours at the fair. This year we will be recognizing the following members at the September general meeting:

Mikayla Ball, Dorothy Price, and Susan Simon & her Dad Joe

The money we earn goes to purchasing animals at the FFA Auction. This year we were able to buy Tanner Kane’s Grand Champion Market Goat.

We were thrilled to get an animal this year. Last year, the bidding was so lively; we weren’t able to purchase one.

Thank you to all our 2019 Fair Volunteers

At our last general meeting, a number of young people came and spoke about their animals. We donated money to every young person that came to that meeting and also to those who wrote us a letter. The auction is a very important event for us to support because NHA is working to maintain our rural lifestyle. These young people raising animals are the future of our rural lifestyle. Our support is the type of encouragement they need if Norco is to stay Norco.

Kid’s & Family Horse Show

The Norco Horsemen’s Association is putting on the first ever horse show designed to include special needs riders. This event is going to be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019 in Clark Arena at George Ingalls Equestrian Event Center. It is geared toward riders ages 4 and up and all riding abilities, including those with special needs.

We are planning to have a day of fun that will be testing everyone’s horsemanship skills, through Equitation, Showmanship, an Obstacle Course and a Costume Contest. I am so very excited to be the Manager of this show. I know I’ve been Chairman of previous similar events, but this one holds a special place in my heart because of the special kiddos being invited to participate.

This event is being held to assist our organization in the support of the youth of Norco. In keeping with our mission statement, what better way to enhance and maintain our rural animal keeping lifestyle than to expose and educate everyone through these types of events?

Can you help make this event a success by participating or coming to root on your favorite rider?

Love to see you all there!

Terri Baker

Trails Committee Update

The NHA Trails Committee meets monthly to discuss local trail conditions and works on projects to correct trail deficiencies. Several of our members have worked on projects from replacing broken and missing trail fence rails on Temescal between Fifth and Sixth, to replacing missing trail posts and rails in the 2200 block of Parkridge, to replacing missing fence post caps by Ridge Ranch Park, to replacing damaged trail fence on Temescal just north of Sixth during the last two months. Members have reported several damaged trail (new) fences to the City and some of those have been repaired.

Thank you to all our volunteers that help keep our trails rideable. Without your help we would not have the trails we have.

Recently, the City Council approved funding of major sections of our trail system that the Measure R Citizens Committee recommended to be funded. This was done following months of presentations made by City Staff to the Committee. We should start to see some of these projects come to fruition within the next year.

Keep enjoying the trails and letting us know of any trail issues you see and we will do what we can to address them.

Bill Naylor, NHA Trails Committee Chairman

Day of the Cowboy

July 27th

July 27th was designated as the National Day of the American Cowboy this year. To honor this day the City of Norco put on an event at Ingalls Park as they have done for the past 10 years. The morning began with an opening ceremony of riders with American flags and some breast cancer awareness flags. Everyone was asked to wear pink that day to highlight the fight against cancer. After the opening ceremony there was an obstacle course and some speed events. The winner of the obstacle course received a belt buckle. They had peewee barrels, which is lots of fun to watch. Some of the kids are quite young and really can hold on as their horse runs the barrels. NHA members helped with these events by taking registration at the obstacle course and the speed events as well as designing and manning the obstacle course. Thanks to Rusty and Roxann Holifield for judging the obstacle course, Gina & Klaus Girmes, Gary Bowen, Susan Omstead-Bowan, Sharon Chandler, Bill Naylor, Jean Hoffman, Mikayla Ball, Maureen O’Donnell, Dan and Jerri Chamberlain, and Teri Anderson for helping with set up, tear down and running the events. We had a wonderful crew that day. At high noon there was a gun fight enactment and of course the ever popular cow chip throwing contest. For the kids there was a petting zoo, panning for gold, crafts, pony rides and a boot race. Also, a wagon race where someone rode in the wagon and someone else pulled the wagon. Always a lot of laughs on that event. To finish off the day, in the evening, there was a barrel race competition. A real day of family fun, if you missed it this year be sure and put it on your calendar for next year.
