IMPORTANTNO PROPANE GAS CYLINDERS ARE ACCEPTED AT
THE RECYCLING CENTER OR CURBSIDE.
The following items must be brought to the Recycling Center: Tires, radiators, iron sinks andtubs, car batteries, central A/C units, metal fencing, pools, lawn mowers & snow blowers,metal sheds, metal cabinets, pool heaters, furnaces and barbecues (NO PROPANE TANKS).
Recycling items, such as bottles, cans, newspapers, magazines and cards, as well aselectronic waste, may also be brought to the Satellite Recycling Center at the CentralAvenue Parking Lot on the first Saturday of the month from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
Hazardous materials, thinners, turpentine, solvents, and paints are NOT ACCEPTED AT ANYTIME. Cans with quantity of paint will not be COLLECTED OR ACCEPTED by the DPW. NO sheetrock, concrete, bricks, patio block, tile, dir t or top soil will be COLLECTED OR ACCEPTED bythe DPW. NO EXCEPTIONS. Call the Bergen County Utility Authority (B.C.U.A.) Hazardous WasteHotline – (201) 807-5825 for information on hazardous materials disposal.No resident shall place trash and/or recycled items at the curb before sunset 7:00 p.m. onthe day prior to scheduled collection day, nor later than 6:00 a.m. on the scheduled collectionday. We recommend placing scheduled material at the curb at night prior to collection day.
HOME IMPROVEMENT MATERIALNO home improvement items or materials will be collected. All contractors and residentsperforming work or services resulting in a home improvement must remove all debris and/ormaterials, such as kitchen cabinets, sheet rock, cement, carpet, tile, vanities/sinks, toilet bowls,shingles, wood products, decking, dir t, rocks and tree parts/stumps. Building and DumpsterPermits are available through the Building Department
GARBAGEGarbage is any non-recyclable waste material generated from the kitchen. Garbage shall be inplastic bags placed in metal or rigid plastic upright containers with handles and covers. No loosegarbage in cans will be picked up. Disposable diapers shall be placed in double plastic bags.Garbage will be picked up from the rear of the home. Containers shall not exceed 32 gallons incapacity. Drums and inground pit cans are not acceptable. Containers shall be kept at the rear ofthe premises with a maximum of two containers per household. IMPORTANT: All containers mustbe safely accessible. Dogs loose on the premises and locked gates will prevent collection. Ifgarbage is placed at the curb for pickup, it must be in upright containers with covers.
TRASHTrash is household material such as furniture, rugs, microwaves, toys, clothes/shoes, mattresses,irons, vacuum cleaners and empty paint cans without lids. No more than 8 trash items shall beplaced at the curb on collection day. Trash shall not be cast, dumped or thrown into the street orset out to the curb in a loose condition. Material must be in containers with handles or tied inbundles not to exceed 40 pounds. Cat litter and dog feces shall be placed in double plastic bagsand disposed of as trash. NO TRASH IS ACCEPTED AT THE RECYCLING CENTER.
NEWSPAPERSNewspapers in bundles must be tied and placed at the curb. NO PLASTIC BAGS. Newspapers arecollected with magazines, cardboard, telephone books, etc. (see calendar for Recycling Schedule).
ELECTRONIC WASTEElectronic Waste will be picked up only on Wednesday after Newspaper collection. E-Waste itemsare computers, monitors, towers, keyboards, printers, telephones, stereos, radios and televisions.
CARDBOARDCorrugated waffle type cardboard and brown paper bags must be flattened, tied and placed atthe curb. NO PIZZA BOXES (place with trash). Cardboard is collected with newspapers,magazines, telephone books, etc. (see calendar for Recycling Schedule).
MAGAZINES AND TELEPHONE BOOKSAll magazines, catalogs, junk mail, telephone books, computer paper, paperback books, andhard covered books without covers must be tied in bundles and placed at the curb. Magazinesetc. are collected with cardboard and newspapers (see calendar for Recycling Schedule).
BOTTLES AND CANS – NO PLASTIC BAGSAll plastic and glass household bottles, tin and aluminum cans may be placed at the curb in anupright container with handles no larger than 32 gallons. NO EMPTY AEROSOL CANS, PLASTICPAINT CONTAINERS, PLASTIC TOYS OR FOOD TRAYS WILL BE ACCEPTED with recyclables.DO NOT USE PLASTIC BAGS (see calendar for Recycling Schedule). Plastics with recyclingtriangle #1, #2 and #5 only can be recycled. All others are trash.
WHITE GOODS (LARGE APPLIANCES)Stoves, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, air conditioners, freezers and refrigeratorsmust be placed at the curb Tuesday evening, the night prior to Recycling collection day. Freezerand refrigerator doors must be removed.
GRASSGrass collection includes hedge clippings, garden plants, flowers, vines and small twigs. Place at curbin paper sacks or upright containers with handles not to exceed 32 gallons. Starting October 15, thebeginning of leaf season, grass may be raked into the street along with leaves. Grass will not becollected in plastic bags. Grass is not collected with garbage, but is picked up by a separate truck.
LEAVESLeaves are accepted at the recycling depot at any time in paper sacks or upright containers.Leaves in plastic bags are not acceptable. Branches are not accepted with a leaf pickup.Leaves are collected on a non-schedule basis during the season.
BRANCHES AND SHRUBSBranches and shrubs must be tied in bundles not to exceed 4 feet in length. Limbs more than 3 inchesin diameter and stumps will not be collected. Branches may be put into containers, but plastic or paperbags must not be used. No more than 8 bundles or containers shall be placed at the curb on collectionday. Branches and shrubs are not collected with garbage, but picked up by a separate truck.
CHRISTMAS TREESChristmas trees will be picked up from January 1 to January 31 on a non-schedule basis.Please remove tree stands, rope and plastic bags. Artificial Christmas trees are disposed ofon trash days.
