F IRST ASSEMBLY OF GOD H EARTBEAT FROM THE PASTORS DESK We Have a Good Partner As I write this I am celebrating my 25 th wedding anniversary with Tamra. Wow what a great wife I have! She is truly a loving help- mate. She is also a great example of a Jesus follower and continu- ously showcases the power of part- nerships. All of us would say we want to live a victorious Christian life. But with- out daily fellowship with the Holy Spirit, it’s impossible to overcome and reach that goal. Fellowship with the Holy Spirit is the launching pad for a life of supernatural power and consistency. In 2 Corinthians 13:14, Paul says, May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” (NIV) I want you to notice the word “fellowship” in this verse, because fellowship with the Spirit is what we need. The word “fellowship” is the Greek word koinonia, a word that has a whole flavor of meanings, but one primary meaning is that of partnership. You will recall from our recent Sunday morning series iValue, that this word koinonia was also used in Acts 2:42-44 referring to the early believers communion with each other. They devoted them- selves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship , to the break- ing of bread and prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many won- ders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believ- ers were together and had every- thing in common.” (NIV) This is the power of partnership which koinonia represents. Another example of koinonia con- veying the idea of partnership can be found in Luke 5:7 after Jesus supplied a miraculous catch of fish. After the fishermen had fished all night and caught nothing, Jesus told them to cast their nets on the other side. When they obeyed, they caught such a massive amount of fish that the nets began to break! Peter knew he couldn’t handle this miraculous catch by himself, so he called to other fishermen in nearby boats to come and assist him. Luke 5:7 says, So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.” (NIV) Do you see the word “partners” in this verse? It is a form of this word koinonia. However, in Luke 5:7 it refers to real, legitimate business partners. One scholar says that this word used in this context lets us know that Peter was no small-time fisherman. He owned an entire fish- ing enterprise, and those men in the other boats were his business associates or his company part- ners. Whether these other fisher- men were co-owners or employees who worked for Peter, they were all working together on the same job and were focused on a joint ven- ture to catch and sell fish. So, Keeping this in mind, 2 Corin- thians 13:14 could convey the fol- lowing idea: “and the PARTNER- SHIP of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” If you stop and think about it, this really makes a lot of sense. When Jesus’ earthly ministry was in op- eration, He and the Holy Spirit always worked together. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:35); empowered by the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:16); and led by the Holy Spirit (Matthew 4:1). Jesus also healed people by the power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 10:38); cast out demons by the power of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 12:28); was resurrected from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:11); and was seated at God’s right hand in the heavenly places through the power of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:19,20). Every time we see Jesus in the Gospels, He is working hand in hand with the Holy Spirit. In fact, Jesus even said He wouldn’t initi- ate anything by Himself, indicating His total dependence on the Spirit of God (John 5:30). Well, if Jesus needed this kind of ongoing part- nership with the Holy Spirit in order to accomplish His divine role in the earth, we certainly have to have the aid of the Holy Spirit as well! There is power in partnership! Let’s partner together with each other and the Holy Spirit. We need what He brings to the table. Blessings, Jeff Wiedenmeyer

FIRST ASSEMBLY OF GOD

HEARTBEAT FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

We Have a Good Partner

As I write this I am celebrating my 25th wedding anniversary with Tamra. Wow – what a great wife I have! She is truly a loving help-mate. She is also a great example of a Jesus follower and continu-ously showcases the power of part-nerships.

All of us would say we want to live a victorious Christian life. But with-out daily fellowship with the Holy Spirit, it’s impossible to overcome and reach that goal. Fellowship with the Holy Spirit is the launching pad for a life of supernatural power and consistency. In 2 Corinthians 13:14, Paul says, “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” (NIV) I want you to notice the word “fellowship” in this verse, because fellowship with the Spirit is what we need. The word “fellowship” is the Greek word koinonia, a word that has a whole flavor of meanings, but one primary meaning is that of partnership.

You will recall from our recent Sunday morning series – iValue, that this word koinonia was also used in Acts 2:42-44 referring to the early believers communion with each other. “They devoted them-selves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the break-ing of bread and prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many won-ders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believ-ers were together and had every-thing in common.” (NIV) This is the power of partnership which koinonia represents.

Another example of koinonia con-veying the idea of partnership can be found in Luke 5:7 after Jesus supplied a miraculous catch of fish. Luke 5:7 says, “So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.” (NIV) Do you see the word “partners” in this verse? Whether these other fisher-men were co-owners or employees who worked for Peter, they were all working together on the same job and were focused on a joint ven-ture to catch and sell fish.

So, Keeping this in mind, 2 Corin-thians 13:14 could convey the fol-lowing idea: “and the PARTNER-SHIP of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”

If you stop and think about it, this really makes a lot of sense. When Jesus’ earthly ministry was in op-eration, He and the Holy Spirit always worked together. Looking Back!

God is so good! As I sit here thinking back on all that has taken place this last month. I just keep thinking the same thing. God is so good! The beginning of the month brought about new territory for all of us in the form of National Fine Arts Festival in Louisville KY. Of all the years of my experience with Fine Arts Festival as a student and chaperone, this was my first experience getting to lead a group of students to Nationals. While I had new shoes to fill so did the students who had never experienced National Fine Arts Festival. God was so faithful throughout the whole trip. I saw students grow closer to one another as well as catch a vision for what they felt they could do with their talents next year for Fine Arts Festival. The week after we had returned from Kenntucky several students and I sat around a bon-fire where they grasped a hold of the challenge to Live for God in their daily lives at school and at home. Eight students became campus missionaries that night and more to come!

Looking Ahead!

In looking ahead I can’t help but see the youth begin to build in numbers and in spiritual strength. God is changing and building students who enter that Youth Center. However nothing is done for God in and of ourselves. I would ask for your prayers for the students entering that Youth Center as well as prayers over myself and other leaders that put their time and effort into walking beside the next generation of world changers.

In September we will be looking at putting together an event for the evening of Homecoming as well as coming alongside Impact World Tour as they will be here the 17th, 18th and 19th. Please be praying for the students as they start this school year, that God would use them, strengthen them and direct them.
