School has been in session now for a couple of weeks,
but for our parish, you know the summer has come to end when
PSR begins, which it does this weekend. So I take this opportunity
to express my thanks and that of the whole parish to all those who
volunteer to minister to our children as catechists and to Jennifer
Boyle, our PSR Coordinator. Teaching the faith to our children is
such an important responsibility, and the Church reminds us at
baptism that it is the parents who are the “first and best teachers in
the ways of faith.” But those who are catechists act as supports to
these parents in this duty, and I know that this commitment
requires the sacrifice of time in preparing and teaching each week.
It also requires patience, creativity, and the willingness to
articulate one’s faith on a level that children can understand. So let
the rest of us commit ourselves to thankfulness and prayer for both
students and catechists alike. Next Sunday, Catechetical Sunday,
we will do this together during Mass.
It seems that with the end of summer comes also the need
to reach out to others in prayer and support for several people in
our community. June Kost had eye surgery last week & I’m
hopeful she will have clear vision. Eleanor Roe, the mother of
Jack Ziebro, had taken a fall & will need some watchful care.
Louise Bauer, whom I recently visited at home with the Anointing
of the Sick and Holy Communion, asks for your prayers as she
deals with a persistent pain in her neck as a result of a very slow
growing tumor on her bone there. It is great to see Ray Hirsch
back in church with us though his full recovery will continue to
take time. Helen Murawski is now at a nursing home in Lakewood
but we remain mindful of her. And we must continue to pray for
Lois Yehlik, Freda Brazis, Dick Rogers, Joan Carlson, Margie
Keep, Mary Cooke, Pat Siddall, Mary Matthews & Ron Guidetti.
We lift all of these brothers & sisters up to the Lord & hold them
in prayer. May God give them all healing, strength & peace.

DEACON'S CORNER:
It's Wayne County Fair time. We could still use some
help manning the fair booth on Wednesday Sept. 11. During this
Year of Faith please consider this an appropriate form of the new
evangelization we are ALL called to. Most of our time at the
booth is spent in putting a friendly face forward for the Catholic
community of Wayne County. There are even some really great
stories that people will stop by and share with us about their return
to the Church. Jesus is calling. Will you answer the call?
At the end of this month my old cell phone number [330-
264-3767] will be Patricia's number. Now and anytime after that I
can be reached at 440-328-6579. Thank you, Deacon Pete
Meals & More Volunteer this week: Jill Tyree & Diane Walko.

Prayer and Fasting for Peace in Syria
At the Angelus prayer on Sunday, September 1, 2013,
His Holiness Pope Francis asked all Catholics to dedicate a day of
prayer and fasting for “Peace in Syria.” As your Bishop, I ask all
of the Faithful to dedicate a day to fast and pray during the week
of September 9-13, 2013. The Pope has offered these thoughts
while reflecting on the crisis in Syria, “How much suffering, how
much devastation, how much pain has the use of arms carried in
its wake….let us pray for peace: peace in the world and in each of
our hearts.”
+Bishop Richard G. Lennon, Bishop of Cleveland

What’s the big deal about the Pope?
The Pope is the source and guarantor of the Church’s
unity. He has the supreme pastoral authority and final authority in
doctrinal and disciplinary decisions. All of this stems from Jesus
giving Peter the unique position of preeminence among the
apostles. This made Peter the supreme authority in the early
Church. Every Christian community had to agree with the Bishop
of Rome on the standards for the true, complete, and unadulterated
apostolic faith. The Bishop of Rome, like Peter, is the supreme
shepherd of the Church whose real Head is Christ. (From the Youth Catechism of the Catholic Church) (Youcat #141)
