Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
Where did the summer go? It just seems like yesterday that it was June and now the kids
are back to school or have already taken off for college. Turning the calendar page to
September means all the church programs are gearing up to resume and some new
programs and events are scheduled. Please read through this entire issue as you will see
that Hope Lutheran is again overflowing with activity and ministry.
I want to encourage every person to prayerfully consider how they can give a few hours each
month to make sure the ministry and outreach of Hope Lutheran will not just continue but thrive and grow! The
simple truth of the matter is that without people stepping up to contribute some of their time much of the
ministry and outreach of our congregation cannot happen!
On Sunday, September 21 there will be a MINISTRY FAIR in our Gathering Space. People will be
offered the opportunity to serve their Lord through this congregation by volunteering to serve in one or more of
our ministries. Some, like ushering, only require you to serve when you already are coming to worship by
handing out bulletins, helping with Communion, and staying a few minutes following the service to cleanup.
Joining a team or task force usually means just meeting once-a-month for 90 minutes or less. I know everyone is
busy these days but I believe God does ask us to give of our Time and Talents as well as our Treasure.
I want to thank a few people who have, over the past few weeks, stepped up and agreed to
assume some leadership positions. Toni Banwart has agreed to serve as our Special Projects
Assistant working primarily with our new database system we are implementing (more on
this to come!!). Jenny Woodham has agreed to serve along with Barb Moe as a
co-coordinator of our Family Promise ministry. Paula Beehler has stepped up to lead our
Congregational Life Team. We also are thankful for Juli Bummer who has agreed to lead the team of
volunteers who will again serve our community by offering Christmas Shoppe this coming December. Finally,
Gary Bishop has agreed to provide leadership and coordination for our Keenagers program. Each of these have
replaced others who have served in these capacities, in some cases, for years. You know how hard it is to win a
tug-of-war with only one person on your side. Many hands does make the job so much easier.
While we rejoice that some have stepped up, we still need others to say “YES — I will serve and give a few hours
of my time.” Here are just some of the leadership positions that need YOUR help: Team Leader for the Human
Concerns Team, Head Usher to coordinate the schedule of ushers, a Coordinator for our Community Café
ministry, Coordinator for Operation Christmas Child at Hope, and someone to coordinate and make the
AV/Tech Booth schedule. Plus, we need volunteers to serve as ushers, av/tech operators, or to serve on almost
every team or committee at Hope, teach Sunday School, or make a meal for a new mother or for someone who is
homebound and recovering from surgery, chemo, or injury.
If you would like to respond to any of these needs
or have questions and need more information, just
speak with Kayla or myself. But do plan to attend
our Ministry Fair on September 21.
Blessings,
Pastor Steve

We had a great summer! Over 125 children
joined us for Wild Animals Vacation Bible
School...18 youth and adults joined us for a week
of life-changing mission work in Burlington, NJ
and 14 youth joined us for our local service
camp, “Service Plunge.” All of these
experiences were instrumental in the life of our
children and youth and God was at work in big
and small ways through all of them. Thank you
to all who helped make them possible!

Return of Harp Hour
Tuesday, September 2 at noon brings the return of the
weekly Harp Hour. Asked why they attend the harp
hour people have a variety of responses: an
opportunity to get away from distractions and focus
on life and life with God; an opportunity to mellow
out and think beyond the next task; enjoyment of the
harp and Nancy Wilson's harp/vocal music; an
opportunity to pray or read scripture away from
distractions; an opportunity to think through coming
dreaded tasks; assess priorities in life and living;. a
time to step away from business ; and a chance to step
back and look at our lives and our relationships with
God and others.
This is an invitation to quietly join others for the
Tuesday noon-1 PM harp hour while Nancy plays
meditative music to help us take a break from life in
order to better be in life.
We are super excited to be heading to the National Youth
Gathering in Detroit, Michigan next summer! All youth
who are currently in 8th-12th grade are strongly
encouraged to join us for this amazing week of learning
and fun. Join us as we Proclaim Community, Proclaim
Story and Proclaim Justice along with 40,000 Lutheran
Teenagers from across the country!
We will be going over details on Sunday, September 14
during our Confirmation Orientation! Older youth are
invited to join us at 6:30 on this Sunday to find out more
information about the trip!
You can start raising money before this meeting! We
need help at all home football games at the concession
stand. All youth and adults are invited to join us for this!
For more information about either the trip or the
fundraising please contact Paul Goodman

DINE AROUND 2014/2015
What is Dine Around?
It can be a brunch, lunch or dinner at the host home. Each group will have 6-8 persons. We meet once a month from October - March; skipping December. The host provides the entrée and the people in the group bring other parts of the meal.
Those who sign up will get a grid sheet in Sept. showing the five months, listing the host for each month and the names of those who will be joining the host for that month. Each host will contact those in their group the month before they host to decide a day for the month along with what each would like to bring. Dine Around is for couples or singles and all ages. Why have Dine Around? With multiple services, we tend to know those who attend the same service. Dine Around offers an excellent opportunity for all members and visitors to get better acquainted. And besides, IT'S FUN AND THE FOOD IS GOOD (and with a little wine it's even better).
If I sign up do I have to be a host? No, just note that on the sign up sheet. This is no problem.
What do I/we do if we cannot attend a certain month?
Again, no problem; just note that on the sign up sheet. There will be a substitute list for the host to invite others to take your place.
I have questions on Dine Around; who do I contact? You can email Dar at [email protected] or call me at church (586-5572). Feel free to share this information with others who would also be interested in joining Dine Around. There is a signup sheet on the bulletin board. In the “other” column indicate if you will be gone a month, prefer not to host, or would rather sub.
The deadline to sign up is Sunday, September 7.

COME JOIN US > > > > INTERFAITH QUILTERS
We begin tying quilts at 12:30 pm on Monday, September 8! No experience needed . . . but we DO need you
(guys included). If you can thread a needle, pin two pieces of fabric together and tie a knot, U qualify. Even if
you can’t, we will show you how! We met every Monday at 12:30 pm (except holidays).
Come when you can - - leave when you must! Also, people are needed to sew quilt tops at home. Squares are pre-cut,
pre-packaged and pre-arranged into a design. All you have to do is fol-
low the directions.
ALL R WELCOME
Dear Friends in Christ,
Thank you from Merv’s extended family for your prayers over the last several years when he
was having health problems and for the prayers and concern for us that you have so generously
expressed with cards and calls upon his death. The presence of many of you at Merv’s
Memorial Service was quite a testimony to your appreciation of his ministry and his love for each
of you.
So many of you have been generous with your cards and donations to several groups in
memory of Merv. It has been overwhelming. I hope that you have received the appreciation of
these organizations. We thank you for your generosity as well. God blessed Merv with 77
wonderful years. Thank you, each of you, for being a part of those years.
A special thank you to Pastor Steve for participating in the service honoring Merv, and to Dar for
her work on the bulletin. That was an invaluable contribution.
God continue to bless your ministry in Bozeman.
Love,
Joyce Olson and family

Chancel Choir Begins Rehearsals Have you ever wondered what it would be like to sit in the
chancel and look out at the congregation? Well, here’s
your chance! The Chancel Choir is looking to swell its
ranks for the coming seasons and is just waiting for you.
The Chancel Choir will begin their rehearsals for the Fall
Season beginning on Thursday, September 4th at 7 pm in
the Sanctuary.
Choir membership is open to all who love to sing praises to
our Lord and who enjoy group fellowship in a church
setting, members and friends alike. We also welcome college and high school age students! Yes, this
group is looking forward to expanding into a multi-generational group within the church. Not able to
make every rehearsal? Well, that is not a problem either. Just ask our present members. We rehearse
our anthems at least 4 weeks in advance and go over the Sunday anthem before the service, so
missing a rehearsal or two would not be problematic
Choir rehearsals regularly meet on Thursdays at 7:00 P.M. in the Sanctuary and the choir leads the
worship and sings at the 8:15 A.M. service every Sunday of the month.
I look forward to seeing both returning and new members as we begin our season of Making a Joyful
Noise to the Lord here at Hope Lutheran Church.
Frederick Frey, D.Mus.
Chancel Choir Director
Family Promise here September 21-28
Our next opportunity to host is September 21 to September 28. Please contact Barb Moe at
(406-350-1910 or ([email protected]) to let her know you are willing to help. Peace
Lutheran in Belgrade works with us, but we need to do our share. The Family Promise
organization offers training to all new overnight volunteer hosts. Let’s support this important
outreach service ministry of our congregation.
Thank you to Jen Tobin for help the past two years in co-coordinating Family Promise.
Now, a big THANK YOU to Jenny Woodham who will be co-coordinating with Barb Moe.

provides both a spiritual and scholarly environment in which each woman can live her own spiritual journey in
