TEEN CLUB NEWS The Teen Club will meet again this Sunday, September 3rd, to make sandwiches for Taking It To The Streets. We will meet at 12:15 and will end by 1:30. I know this is Labor Day Weekend, but can’t we take a few minutes to help those less fortunate then ourselves? Have you thought about joining us for our annual Conference December 1-3? HARDY MUM FUNDRAISER September 23-24

plant is just $8 or four for $30 and will come in a variety of colors. Please support the amazing teens in our parish and have a beautiful garden at the same time. All proceeds will help with the cost of our annual conference in December.

WEEKLY SCRIPTURE DISCUSSION “Opening the Word”

One of the opportunities will be for an “Opening the Word” discussion of the upcoming Sunday readings each week on a Monday evening. The goal is to enliven the Sunday scriptures with background of the readings and allowing the Word of God to enter our hearts. This is available to us through FORMED (subscription funded by the Archdiocese’s Renew and Rebuild campaign) and we are grateful for the chance to offer this insight to our parishioners. Introductory Session: Monday, September 18 at 7:30pm in the Parish Hall Call the Parish Office to let us know if you would like to participate.

JOURNEY OF FAITH

Knowing the Faith/ Living the Faith We have a series of short informative video clips which will be offered on both Tuesday AND Wednesday afternoons from 5-6pm to encourage discussion of our Catholic Faith. The same content will be presented each day. We will begin the last week in September. It is an opportunity to get to know fellow parishioners and learn more about the faith in an informal setting as well as to share our own personal insights and experiences. We are encouraging our Religious Ed parents to join in to participate in Symbolon: Knowing the Faith and Living the Faith. Please let us know if you are interested.

SACRISTAN TEAM NEEDED “I think it is time for me to retire...” Just before I left for vacation, one of the “pillars” of our Church, Trudy Polniaszek, our Sacristan, told me that “I will be 91 in January... I think it is time for me to retire” and I sadly accepted her decision. Trudy has volunteered in this capacity for 20 or more years, and has been extremely faithful to this task. She set up for Mass every morning, including Funerals, after she opened the church; kept the holy water fonts clean and full; kept the oil filled in the altar candles; washed the altar linens and dusted and cleaned the altar area as well as the glass doors and windows of the “cry room”. Our plan is that we would like to replace Trudy with a TEAM of volunteers and to expand this coverage to include our weekend Masses, and so we are hoping that YOU might be willing to help us. Next week’s bulletin will go into more details and explain our plan more fully. In the meantime, we wanted to let you know, and on your behalf, say a very loud “THANK YOU, Trudy, you will be missed greatly, and yes, you can continue to wash the altar linens each week!” Fr. Jay

NEXT WEEK’S SECOND COLLECTION

CHURCH IN LATIN AMERICA CATHOLIC HOME MISSIONS

The following is excerpted from letters written by Cardinal Dolan, regarding next weekend’s combined second collections: Dear friends in the Lord, For more than a half century, the collection for the Church in Latin America has been a sign of the solidarity of the Church in the United States with the Church in Latin America and the Caribbean. For people living in those regions, barriers to practicing the faith include lack of resources, shortages of pastoral agents, and poor infrastructures that make relatively simple things like participating in weekly Mass difficult. Your support of this collection helps to share the faith with those who long to experience the Lord’s mercy within strong faith communities. We also will take up the Catholic Home Missions Appeal, which supports the (arch)dioceses here in our own country that struggle to make ends meet and to serve all of the needs of their own parishioners. It is through your generosity that many churches are able to keep their doors open and provide essential pastoral services. For more information about the Catholic Home Missions Appeal and about those who benefit from it, please visit www.usccb.org/home-missions. With prayerful best wishes, I am, Faithfully in Christ, Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan Archbishop of New York

MANY THANKS TO THE TEEN CLUB

“Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers, that you do unto me.” Thanks to the young men and women who make PB&J sandwiches each first Sunday of the month to distribute to the homeless in Poughkeepsie. You should see the sincere gratitude in their faces as we give out food, clothing, and toiletries to them. Blessings to each of you! With sincere admiration, Jeannette Bagnasco Taking it to the Streets Feeding the Hungry with Dignity Just another note about our teens … a number of them spent last Friday morning weeding and cleaning the flower beds and picking up the St Stanislaus grounds. In addition another group helped Mrs Sullivan prepare the classrooms in the Faith Formation Building for the upcoming school year. A wonderful effort by these kids and their adult advisors! A great example of stewardship. Great job all around!
