The dates for the Baptism of children and for the Pre-Baptismal instruction of parents should be arranged in the rectory ONE MONTH IN ADVANCE. In addition to English, and Spanish this Sacrament may also be in Italian.

•WEDDINGS/ MATRIMONIO Pre–marital instruction is a requirement for all engaged couples. Consequently, arrangements for weddings should be made SIX MONTHS in advance.

“But you, man of God, pursue righteousness, devotion, faith, love, patience and gentleness. Compete well for the faith. Lay hold of eternal life, to which you were called when you made the noble confession in the presence of many witnesses... I charge you… to keep the commandment without stain or reproach…” Every Sunday, as we stand to profess our faith in the creed, we renew our commitment, with all at worship with us. In this way, we not only recite that in which we

believe, but grasp again the gift of eternal life. In so many letters Paul offers a litany of virtues to be sought, fruits to be made manifest, and the elements present in our Christian family life. Whether it is the hymn of charity in Corinthians, the fruits of the Spirit in Galatians, or the building blocks in Colossians, we are given the foundation stones for solid Christian living. The list offered to Timothy today is intended to be added to many others. Thank you Paul for such wonderful reminders. “Tú, hombre de Dios, practica la justicia, la piedad, la fe, el amor, la constancia, la bondad. Pelea el buen combate de la fe, conquista la Vida eterna, a la que has sido llamado y en vista de la cual hiciste una magnífica profesión de fe, en presencia de numerosos testigos. Yo te ordeno que observes lo que está prescrito, manteniéndote sin mancha e irreprensible.” Cada domingo, al ponernos de pie y profesar nuestra fe en el credo, renovamos nuestro compromiso, junto con todos los que veneran con nosotros. De esta forma no sólo recitamos lo que creemos, sino que nos asimos de nuevo al don de la vida eterna. En muchas de sus cartas, San Pablo ofrece una letanía de virtudes a buscar, frutos que manifestar, y los elementos presentes en nuestra vida familiar cristiana. Ya sea el himno de caridad en la carta enviada a los corintios, los frutos del espíritu a los gálatas, o los bloques de construcción a los colosenses, se nos dan las piedras de fundación para una vida cristiana sólida. La lista que se le ofrece a Timoteo hoy es para ser agregada a tantas otras. Gracias, San Pablo, por tan maravillosos recordatorios.

Con questa parabola Gesù ci richiama l’irreparabile eternità delle pene dell’inferno. È un discorso duro, ma viene dalle labbra di Gesù. Il ricco Epulone, che durante la vita terrena non ha praticato la carità, soffre irrimediabilmente nell’oltrevita. Egli, come i suoi fratelli, conosceva la legge e le profezie che specificano i modi della giustizia divina: forse riteneva che per lui si sarebbe fatta

un’eccezione, e invece tutto si compie alla lettera. Siamo avvertiti anche noi: non possiamo edulcorare la legge di Cristo, affidarci a una “misericordia” che non trovi corrispettivo nella nostra carità. Finché siamo quaggiù abbiamo tempo per compiere il bene, e in tal modo guadagnarci la felicità eterna: poi sarà troppo tardi. Gesù dà un senso anche alle sofferenze di Lazzaro: le ingiustizie terrene saranno largamente compensate nell’altra vita, l’unica che conta. Abbiamo il dovere di far conoscere a tutti, cominciando dalle persone che amiamo, la logica della giustizia divina: e questa è la forma più squisita della carità.
