SEPTEMBER 25, 2016
ON THE BUILDING & IN THE GROUNDS
One year ago Holy Child commenced its monthly golden jubilee celebrations with
Family Fun Fair. In the time that flies, the monthly calendar has come full circle. Although jubilee celebrations reached a climax with the gala dinner
dance and the anniversary mass, we still are in 2016, the year of golden jubilee. There happen to be a couple of things left with which we round out
our milestone year.
Now to be found on the inside back wall of the church, opposite Founder’s Memorial, are four frames which, up until now, have hung hither and yon in
the parish complex. They have now come together.
The first one is an autographed portrait of Terence Cardinal Cooke with an inscription congratulating the founding pastor, Monsignor Brennan, and the
original parishioners of Holy Child on the dedication day of the church. This was presented just a few years after Monsignor’s pioneer efforts in
calling together the People of God in this vicinity – the story of which can be read on the bronze plaque of Founder’s Memorial.
The three other frames enclose illuminated parchments, documents from the Vatican, communicating papal blessings to Holy Child on the happy occa-sions of landmark anniversaries — Silver, Ruby and Gold — testaments to the passage of God’s gift of time in the decades’ long development of the
parish.
We shall lay The Jubilee to rest, so to speak, when in the Fall we bury a time capsule on the grounds. It will contain a number of remarkable items
pertaining to parish life and the world at present that will certainly be mused over when next time seen in 2066 or so.
