2016 Compliance Conference

Message from the Chair

We all know that the regulatory challenges facing our institutions continue to increase in number and complexity with no end in sight.

Resources have definitely not kept pace and many times have actually been cut. We are all pushed daily to do more with less.

While technology can help, it often brings its own compliance obstacles. GBA is here to help us overcome these challenges. The 2016 GBA

Compliance Conference is designed to bring you the latest information, tools, and best practices in the bank compliance arena.

Compliance and risk professionals of all experience levels will benefit from this information-packed program. The conference is scheduled

for Sept. 14-16 at Middle Georgia State University in Macon. Sessions range from high-level overviews to detailed how-to workshops.

This conference will provide you with up-to-date continuing education you need to meet compliance certification requirements as well as

help you maintain your professional skills and credibility in your organization. It is also a great opportunity to network with fellow compliance

and risk professionals, make new friends and professional relationships and renew and strengthen existing ones. You’ll hear from nationally

recognized speakers as well as local bank experts. As in the past, GBA is offering a split agenda and registration so compliance and risk

professionals can take advantage of the portions of the conference most relevant to their unique needs.

I have had the wonderful honor and privilege of serving as the GBA Compliance Committee Chair this year. I thank all of the committee

members for their many hours of volunteer effort in planning and delivering this outstanding program. I hope you’ll join us in September for

the premier bank compliance event in Georgia.

Sincerely, Jim Bedsole, CRCM, CBA, CFSA, CAFP 2016-2017 Compliance Committee Chair Senior Vice President, Chief Compliance and Risk Officer BankSouth, Greensboro

Chair, 2016-2017 GBA Compliance Committee SVP, Chief Compliance and Risk Officer, BankSouth, Greensboro 10 a.m. Evolving Deposit Products – Same Old Regulations, Brand New Products Deborah Kent-Cochran, Engagement Management Manager, FIS Global RISC Solutions Technology and banking have seen enormous changes over the years. Evolving account access and payments options in areas such as ATMs, debit, prepaid, PayPal, bitcoin, P2P, mobile phone banking and ApplePay have fundamentally changed the way banks and their customers do business. But, other than a few minor tweaks to regulations E, CC and DD, deposit regulations have remained unchanged. So, just how do you make sure your bank allows for the new access points to deposit accounts while still meeting the rules laid out in the regulations that have not been updated? Don’t miss this session as we explore this challenge and how your compliance team can succeed. 11:15 a.m. Sponsor and Exhibitor Mini-Presentations 11:30 a.m. Lunch 12:30 p.m. Hot Topics in Social Media & Advertising Compliance Sharon A. Blanchette, CPA, CIA, CRCM, CAMS, MBA

Director, Risk Management, FIS Global RISC Solutions

There’s a long list of compliance rules and requirements for advertising, and the advent of social media channels has only complicated the job of creating ads that bring in new business and comply with all the rules. Join us for this session that will help compliance officers, marketing officers and third parties work in concert to ensure compliance AND effectiveness. We’ll cover areas such as UDAAP and fair lending, how to craft a compliant social media strategy, legal, operational, and reputational risk. You’ll even get take-home tips for monitoring and testing your advertising and social media efforts. 1:30 p.m. Break 1:45 p.m. UDAAP – Many Shades of Gray Andy Barksdale, TruPoint Partners The regulators’ ongoing scrutiny on issues relating to unfair, deceptive or abusive acts or practices (UDAAP) compels banks to make UDAAP a crucial part of their compliance management system. The challenge is that UDAAP is dependent on the specific circumstances in any given case, making it an inexact science. This interactive session will review the CFPB’s definition of “unfair,” “deceptive,” and “abusive” acts or practices, bring forward real-life observations by studying enforcement actions and explore practical solutions to help your organization manage the risk.

2:45 p.m. Break – Sponsored by Fiserv, Inc. 3:00 p.m. BSA – Past, Present, and Future Lori Godfrey, CFE/CEM, Deputy Commissioner for Supervision

Georgia Department of Banking & Finance Learn about the exceptions being discovered in examinations, recent enforcement actions and areas that examiners are focusing on to better prepare you for your bank’s next BSA examination. Godfrey will also discuss BSA changes to include beneficial ownership.
