APA PLANT TOURS Monday, September 24 ~ 8:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
ARBAN & CAROSI, INC. 13800 Dawson Beach Rd, Woodbridge, VA 22191
The partnership of Arban & Carosi, Inc. began as two separate companies, both founded around 1915. Arban Brothers Cast Stone was a cast stone producer in Alexandria, VA, and was founded by John V. Arban, Sr. Washington Ornamental Plaster was an ornamental plaster shop in Georgetown and founded by Nicholas Carosi, Sr. The companies began working together in the mid-1920’s when Mr. Carosi was hired by Arban Brothers to build plaster models for their cast stone.
Arban & Carosi as a true partnership between the two men, John V. Arban, Sr. and Nicholas Carosi, Sr. was formed sometime in 1937. Their vision and foresight, created a facility large enough to handle the growing product and demand while also providing the ergonomics and flexibility to maintain their high standard of quality. The facility, now over forty years old, is still considered one of the finest architectural precast plants in the country.
SMITH-MIDLAND CORPORATION 5119 Catlett Rd, Midland, VA 22728
In 1960, David G. Smith produced the first Smith-Midland precast product, the Smith-Cattleguard in Midland, Virginia. Their facilities expanded from a small farm outbuilding to a modern complex of office and production buildings on a 20 acre site, with a second manufacturing facility in Reidsville, North Carolina. In 1985, in celebration of a quarter century of progress and to better represent the diversity of their products, the name of the company was changed from Smith Cattleguard Company to Smith-Midland Corporation and Smith-Carolina Corporation.
From the beginning, Smith-Midland has provided innovative, high quality precast concrete products backed by superior service. Mid-land strives for Excellence in the production of Precast Concrete, and they welcome the opportunity to share that excellence with us.

JOHN BRADLEY THOMPSON THE CURE STARTS NOWIn June of 2013, the Jesse Thompson family was delivered the devastating news that their son, John Bradley had a Diffused Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), an inoperable brain tumor that affects less than 300 kids per year and yields just a 2% survival rate. John, his family and his community banded together for ten months, but sadly, John lost his battle in April 2014.
Many believe that DIPG holds the secret to curing most, if not all, forms of cancer. The Cure Starts Now Cancer Foundation is one of the only cancer foundations dedicated to finding a “homerun” cure. However, this particular form of Pediatric Brain Cancer research receives little to no federal funding since there are so few kids diagnosed on a yearly basis (approximately 300). No parent should ever be delivered this devastating news. The money raised through The Cure Starts Now is used in the best possible manner, minimizing wasted spending and fighting cancer on knowledge and research, not just the numbers. Because of this experience, the Thompson family is heavily involved with the foundation and APA would like to show their support as well.
If you would like to support this worthwhile cause, donation forms are available at the convention registration desk.
