September 2020 Newsletter
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been nice to welcome back the children this month after an extended period of them
being away from school. With all of the new restrictions in place, it is surprising how quickly
the children have adapted. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our parents and
carers for their support and understanding during this period of change as we all adjust to
the ‘new normal’.
Due to the restrictions, we have conducted all of our End of Year Expectation meetings over
Zoom. The turnout for meetings was higher than last year and this is probably due to the fact
that the meeting was delivered online. For those of you with Class Dojo accounts, you will
have received the link to the presentation that was given during the meeting; it is there for
you to refer back to. The link for your child’s year group will be removed at half term. If you
are not already registered on Class Dojo, I strongly recommend that you do so as this is a
superb way of directly communicating with your child’s class teacher.
This week is Bike to School Week 2020 and it has been really nice to see the high number of
pupils arriving at school on their bike or scooter. Pupils have taken the responsibility of
ensuring their bike or scooter is stored in the correct area.
For those of you with a Class Dojo account, you will have received information this week
about new arrangements for Pupil Progress Meetings with Parents that will take place after
half term. As we are unable to invite parents and carers into school in large numbers, these
meetings will take place online. Further information as to the new arrangements will be
shared next week.
Due to the COVID restrictions and the need for pupils to remain in bubbles during the school
day, it has changed the way lunchtimes are organised. For the remainder of this half term,
pupils will continue to eat a packed lunch in class. We are looking at plans to reintroduce
year groups back into the dining hall on a rota basis so that we can serve hot meals from
November. Once the details have been finalised, I will share these with parents.
Finally, I would like take the opportunity to thank parents and carers for their words of
encouragement, understanding and support since we returned in September. The pandemic
and the restrictions it has brought has certainly changed the way we operate as a school but I
have been encouraged by how quickly pupils, staff, parents and carers have
adapted to these changes.
Mr Walker
October Half Term
The last day in school for pupils before
half term is
Thursday 22nd October 2020
(Friday 23rd October is an Inset Day)
We return after the half term break on
Monday 2nd November 2020
Holidays During Term Time
Taking holidays during term time will affect your child’s schooling as
much as any other absence and we expect parents to help us by not
taking children away during term time. Remember that savings you
think you may make by taking a holiday in school time are offset by
the cost of your child’s education. There is no automatic
entitlement in law for time off in school time to go on holiday. Pupils
will not be permitted leave of absence in term time for holidays or
any other activities.
In the event of you requiring leave for your child during term time,
it will be necessary to request this in writing to the school’s
[email protected] email. This will then
be recorded as an unauthorised absence and will result in a penalty
fine.
At present, the penalty fine is £60 per child per parent which
rises to £120 if the fine is not paid within 21 days.
Important - please note: If you are planning on spending any time abroad during the
half term break, please ensure you are fully aware of the
government’s quarantine restriction guidelines for entering the UK
in order to allow sufficient time for your child’s return to school on
Monday 2nd November. Please see link to
Gov.uk advice below.

Thank you to our Children, Parents and Carers!
We would like to thank you all for bearing with us whilst we
got to grips with the new drop off and collection
arrangements this term. Children have adapted very well
and now quickly go straight into class after leaving their
parents/carers just within the school gate. This allows for the
school day to get off to a prompt start.
Thank you to all parents for arriving at staggered times in the
morning which avoids large groups of people outside the
gates before they open. Parents are now quickly leaving the
school premises via the car park gate and not congregating
nearby which allows for other parents to safely drop their
children off.
The current drop off and collection arrangements are
working very smoothly now which is testament to the
flexibility and commitment of our children,
parents and carers.
“Many thanks to you all!”
