STATEMENT OF CALLING
West Side Christian Church is a faithful and caring church family committed to making disciples of
Jesus Christ in our CHURCH, our COMMUNITY, and our WORLD.
CHURCH: Equip our church family through spiritual growth and leadership development.
COMMUNITY: Share the love of Christ through service.
WORLD: Witness through support of Disciples’ missions.
West Side Staff:
Mark E. Poindexter, Pastor
Kristen Schafer, Music Director
Trish Barker, Office Manager
On Sunday, September 15th, West Side Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will
be celebrating the 30th anniversary in congregational ministry of our spiritual leader,
Dr. Mark E. Poindexter. Pastor Mark began his years of pastoral ministry in
September 1989. The hope for the day is to acknowledge how the relationship
between a pastor and a congregation helps us all work more effectively to further the
realm of God upon this earth.
You are invited to join us for this special event. The day will consist of morning
worship with guest speaker, Jill Frame followed by lunch consisting of a pork
tenderloin sandwich (a Hoosier specialty requested by Mark), potato salad/or chips,
dessert and beverage. If you are not able to attend, you might consider sending a
letter of acknowledgement, mentioning the ways you have been able to partner with
Pastor Mark to further God’s realm in our world. A portion of the letters sent will be
shared during lumch and all will be compiled and given to Mark. We are looking
forward to celebrating with Pastor Mark and hope you will be able to join us.

We wish to extend our
sincere sympathy to
Stan Peerless and his
family on the recent loss
of his wife, Linda Peerless.
Dear West Side Family -
Thank you does not even begin to ex-
press the gratitude that Pam and I have for
the phone calls, cards, visits, and most of all
prayers we received fro our church family
during my illness for the last three months.
Although there are hurdles to cross, I have
reason to believe that I am on the way to
recovery. Again, a great big THANKS for
all of your love and support.

Disciple Women's Fellowship will be planning the 145th Birthday celebration of
their organization. Those interested in helping plan this event are asked to meet on
Thursday, September 5 at 7 PM in the Fellowship Classroom.
Pastor Mark will begin a fall study from the book, “When Christians Get It Wrong”,
(revised edition) by Adam Hamilton. An electronic edition can be ordered from Ama-
zon or if you prefer the actual book, Pastor Mark will be happy to order it for you at a
cost of $11.45. “This study will help you gain a different way of understanding the issues that keep people away from Christianity and keep Christians from living
a more compelling faith”. Dates for the study will be
Sunday, October 6, 13 and 27 and November 3,10 and 24, at 6:00 PM. These
dates are tentative and could change in a couple of weeks but please mark them on your calendar
as listed until Pastor Mark tells you differently. Please sign up by Sunday, September
22 so that books can be ordered promptly.
