Addicted to drugs, abusive controlling pimps, the streets, short stints in jail, the cycle of death that was her life, and on top of that, pregnant AGAIN. It was the end. The only way out was death or prison, but that wasn’t her fate. Instead, she went to school… and never stopped. On her journey, she became empowered with knowledge
of her culture and history. Today, Dr. Elaine Richardson shares her story of sexual exploitation and other forms of bondage to bring awareness to the plight of those entrapped in urban domestic human trafficking, and to promote
healing and empowerment through education.

The club had a display at school orientation in August and was invited to speak to parents and students about the club. After school orientation many stopped by the table to take information about joining and several had
questions. Our first meeting was an orientiation-type meeting held the second week of school and there were a lot of new
faces. Our first official meeting will be Septmber 16th. This year’s club advisor from the school is Amy Teders. We look forward to working with Ms. Teders.

Conference Workshops– Check (√) by the workshop you would like to attend.
Saturday Afternoon –Workshops 2-3 pm #1 _______ TITLE: “Leadership: Courage - Stepping up to Leadership” By Catherine McEwan
Description: Looking at Courage and its relationship to women and leadership. Worldwide, we have a disparity in the number of women who are in the highest positions of leadership in government, business, education, and professions. Why is that? We know that women have reached an equal basis with men in education in many parts of the world, yet that hasn’t resulted in more women leaders. This huge gender gap in leadership has a profound impact on all areas of life. This workshop will cover what does it take to step up to leadership? How can we—as Zontians, help?
#2 _______ TITLE: “Invisible Women: Zonta, Writing, and Incarcerated Teens” By Tasha Golden, Doctoral Student, U of L
Description: As a career singer/songwriter, my songs often touch on topics such as domestic violence and mental illness, and listeners regularly approach me to share their own difficult stories. It’s a testament to art’s power to create safe spaces for significant discussions—a power that was on display when I first performed for incarcerated teen women in 2012. They were eager—anxious, even—to discuss these themes, and I left the jail that day intent on researching the role creative writing could play in their lives.
Saturday Night plated meal please Check (√) off one of the three choices: __________1. Bourbon Glazed Salmon-fresh salmon marinated in Bourbon sauce and chargrilled with Bourbon BBQ sauce; Caesar Salad, baked potato, green beans almandine and dinner rolls.
