Her family bought it from the federal government in the 1800’s and sold it to the Randall’s in 2005. Barb C. also moved in this month. We are excited to have both of these residents here and get to know them both. August has been another great month, and we have so many new and excing things going on here at Randall Residence. We were able to ride on General Harrison at the Johnston Farm in Piqua on the Miami Erie Canal. That secon of the canal was opened in 1837 and was last used in the early 1900’s. The boat was pulled by a mule named Kit who gave us a very smooth and steady ride. It was a beauful, sunny and relavely cool day to take a boat ride. Zeke C., Bob T., Arlene P., Cathe- rine S., Jean S., and Lois R. were all able to go. They all had a wonderful me and we looking forward to going again next year. We had some great lunch bunch trips this month. We went to Marion’s pizza and then went to the country bulk barn in Troy for ice cream and were able to walk around downtown Troy. We also went to Jimmy’s Ladder 11 in downtown Dayton and also to Bad Frog on Brown Street for frozen yogurt. The weather was absolutely perfect for walking around and exploring the towns. Our prairie connues to blossom! Zeke and Jean went out to look at the prairie and they were able to spot seven monarch caterpillars on the buer- fly milkweed. We are looking forward to watch- ing them make their chrysa- lis and change into buer- flies within the next month. Black swallowtail caterpillars on the parsley were also spoed. “If you plant it they will come” certainly applies here! Now that school is back in session, our school programs are beginning again. This is the second year that we will have both the Tipp City High School students as well as the Miami Montessori students join- ing us on a regular basis. The Tipp City Students help with housekeeping as well as work in the kitchen. They will be here on Mondays, Thursday, and Fridays from 9:00am-10:10am. We appreciated their services so much and are excited to have them back for another school year. Make sure to say “hello” to them when you see them in the hallways. We are also looking forward to having the Miami Montessori Students join us again this year. They will be here the third Friday of every month from 9:30am-11:00am. and will join us for exercise and various other acvies. In September we will have the students and residents write memoirs about one another. In October the students will be doing a presen- taon for the residents about Montessori and how it is different from tradional educaon. In November we will be doing a movie night with the students and residents. In the spring the residents will be pung together a presentaon for the students about World War II. We would love for residents to share their personal experiences of serving in the world and also what it was like being state side during this me period. If you have any memorabilia, pictures, or stories we would love for you to share this part of history with the students. Let Lindsy know if you are interested in parci- pang in this program. We are excited to connue partnering with “Project Believe.” It is a non-profit organizaon started by Tammie Rafferty from Tipp City who has the desire to provide items to youth, many who are in foster care, who are in residenal psychi- atric treatment centers. “Project Believe” supplied these youth with back packs filled with supplies to start the school year.
