    Dear Church Family,

I know in my heart that you are a giving church body. In the past you have beenvery gracious and generous in your giving toward special requests and projects. When the roo needed repairing, you came through. When the education wingneeded upgrading, you came through. Other projects you have given to helpcomplete include the youths basement project and most recently the youthsmission trip. You came through.

As your Finance Chairman, I have been conronted with a situation which I eelcalls or the creation o this special request. Our roo is leaking, uh, er . . . no . . .We need to re-do some wing o the church, er, uh, . . . well, yes but not right now. . . wait, I got it, I want to take a mission trip to, er . . . well I would like to, but Godwill decide when I do that.

Hmmm, you say, what is your special request then? Well, our nancial roo hassprung a leak . . . the wings have allen o our balance sheet . . . and my missionnow is to ask you to help once again.

The summer has been brutal on our General Fund. We have paid up our MinistryShares and Conerence responsibilities through July. But our General Fund isbehind, in that we owe approximately $12,000 in every day type bills (like utilities, payroll, insurances, materials, supplies, you get the picture).

Our church treasurer, Laura Peet, has done a magnicent job o paying bills ina ashion that covers the most important rst, and then the ones that are closestto being over due. (Actually, some are already over due.) We are trying diligentlyto reduce waste, become more ecient, and we are trying our best to be costconscientious across the board.

With your help, I know we can master this special request. Please pray, then ollowwhat the Holy Spirit leads you to do. We need to seriously consider this nancialappeal so that we can continue to carry out the ministries o the Ithaca UnitedMethodist Church.

    Thank you.

Sincerely,Donn GatesIthaca United Methodist Church - Finance Chairman

We place a lot o value on the lives we currently have on this earth, including all ourdreams and goals that are tied to the American Dream.

According to David Platt, author oRadical, we seek saety, security and success; and we determine whether this is happeningor not by i weve achieved more comort, own bigger and better things, and have greater prosperty to do things that we enjoy. And we will spend most o our time, attention and eort seeking these our whole lives.

Yet God has prepared something more glorious or us! He has prepared a growing, intimate relationship with Him, and an ac-tive part in His redeeming plans, plus an eternal lie with Him that is more glorious than we can imagine! God has prepared thisor ALL mankind - each person - through the gracious git o His Son, Jesus Christ, dying or all our sins, i we believe, receive andollow Him (Jesus).

Let me ask you, based on how busy American lives are today, can you t a growing, intimate relationship with Jesus into yourAmerican lie? Are you willing to give up things to grow your relationship with Jesus?

What do you thinkour eternal uture would look like today (heaven or hell) i the rst disciples that Jesus called on told Himno? Or i they said, Sounds interesting, but not now, Im too busy?

Where would we be today i the saints who lived later on had accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior and said, Thank youJesus or what you did or me, but did little or nothing to pass the gospel truth on to others?

What would your uture look like i all the people around you thanked Jesus or saving them, but in their busy American livesthey didnt think they had time to tell you?

God had glorious plans or saving you!! And He honored mankind by using people to reach you! He now has placed you, Hisredeemed child, in this position o honor o reaching others who are lost and need Jesus.

God wants more o your time and attention. He has something glorious that He wants to do with you - God and you together! Are you willing to give Him more?

Love the Lord with ALL your heart, soul and mind, and love your neighbor as yoursel. (Matt. 22:37-39)
