multicultural and multilingual school board.
In addition to classroom learning, students will have unique opportunities to practise their
English skills, explore Toronto and experience Canadian society and history through trips, tours

High Water Levels Brings Increased Risks
The Toronto and Region Conservation monitors hazardous ice
conditions as thaw begins and are reminding everyone to be
very careful around all bodies of water. The first hint of
warming weather and the promise of spring thaw can bring
extreme danger to the shores and surfaces of streams, rivers,
ponds and lakes, according to Toronto and Region
Conservation.
As warmer temperatures arrive, stream banks become increasingly slippery and unstable.
Lake and river ice weakens, becoming thinner or with higher flows breaking with little or no
warning. During this time, the potential for flooding and ice jamming is high.
Higher, faster-flowing water and extreme cold temperatures combine to create increased
dangers on or near rivers, streams and ponds for people wishing to enjoy the seasonal
changes. Parents and caregivers are being asked to keep children away from stream banks,
ponds and lakes.
Look What’s Happening in Our AMAZING School!!
The Girls Volleyball team had their Conference
Tournament last week at Cassandra P.S. The girls played
extremely well! They won both sets playing against
Ranchdale P.S. and fought hard but were defeated
against Cassandra P.S. They are now going to the
quarter finals, date to be determined! Way to go, girls. A
big thank you to the coaches Ms. Sharon Spencer and
Ms. Tina Zavarelli for all you hard work and dedication.
Ms. Tomcko’s grade 4 class has been working hard in Science!
The students built sedimentary rock layers for their Rocks and
Minerals unit. The grade 4 students have been learning about
what minerals are found in sedimentary rocks and common
uses for these rocks.
Dear Thorncliffe Park Parents,
We are working on teaching our students NEW and BETTER ways to say things! When we find a better way to describe or say a word we use every-day we call that new word a “Million Dollar Word”. Our students are then encouraged to use and find that word in other classes, at home, in books and when they speak and write. For example: A million dollar word for ‘nice’ would be ‘fantastic’. A million dollar word for ‘big’ would be ‘gigantic’. Mr. Crane is making million dollar words too! He is giving each grade a new million dollar word to define and use each week. Grade 1 & 2 – Revisit Grade 3, 4 & 5 - Identify Listen for your children to use them at home! Talk with your children about what the words mean and how you say them in your first language! Encourage your children to use them at home and you try to use them too! That way we can all develop million dollar vocabularies!
