Congratulations Palestine ISD teachers of the year Janice Magee and Eva Roman-Riley! They were honored this week at a reception hosted by the Region 7 Education Service Center. Janice Magee teaches algebra and geometry at Palestine High School and Eva Roman-Riley teaches Pre-K at the Washington Early Childhood Center. Mrs. Magee and Mrs. Roman bring out the best in our children by giving the best of themselves. Palestine ISD is extremely proud to have such talented
teachers as Mrs. Magee and Mrs. Roman.
Palestine ISD is excited to begin offering eligible students in kindergarten through grade 12 before and afterschool learning opportunities made possible by the Texas 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant. Texas After-school Centers for Education, or TACE for short, will begin Monday, September 23rd and will be open both before and after school for academic enrichment for students at
each PISD K-12 cam-pus. Palestine ISD is very fortunate to be one of nineteen schools in the state to receive this grant of 8.5 million to be distributed over a five year period. I would like to thank our many dedicated staff members who have spent many hours applying for this grant and preparing for its start-up. We look forward to the additional assistance the TACE programs will provide to our students.

Tommy Cross from Brookshire’s presented Palestine High School with a gift of $1,000. We are grateful for the generosity of our community partners. Their support helps our students reach great heights.
At the East Texas Restaurant Association meeting at the Potpourri House in Tyler, Texas, Palestine High School was one among 16 schools to receive a $1,000 grant to use in our program with no restrictions on our purchases. This is the second year that the ET Restaurant Association has made Cace ProStart Grant Awards, and the second year in a row that PHS has received this grant. We are grateful for their continued support!

Besides making sure all of our students are up-to-date on their immunizations, Washington ECC performs height and weight measurements, hearing and vision screenings on all of our students and also dental screenings on our Head Start students. The height and weight measurements are performed three times per year and used to determine health/nutrition status and risk of each child at Washington ECC.
Heights and Weights with our Nurse
We all know that the first three years of life are the most important years of a child’s life. Our 2 Year old class is having a great time in that development. Ms. Tomecia and Ms. Melissa are busy giving their 2 year olds a wonderful learning environment with lots of learning experiences as you can see from the pictures.

Washington ECC students celebrated Constitution Day learning how the rights and freedoms we celebrate every day came to be with many hands-on learning activities.

We are half way through September and are moving full steam
ahead. The week of October 14 – 18 is National School Lunch
Week and the focus is on Local Products and menu items. Look
for Texas favorites, like Chicken Fried Steak and Frito Pie on
the lunch menu that week. We will also have information from
our produce company on what Texas local farmers they
purchase from. Buying from local Texas farmers means the
produce doesn’t have to be shipped across the country, so it is
fresher and we are helping our own Texas farmers.
The High School is now selling coffee in the cafeteria for $.50
and when the weather turns cooler (hopefully soon) they will be
selling hot
chocolate for $.50
as well. If you
need a pick me up,
stop in the
cafeteria and get a
cup of freshly
brewed coffee.
