REFRESH - WednesdaysPrayer and Praise weekly retreat opportunity.6pm in the Church.

Being lost is a natural occurrence when we stagger away from the path or do not follow the direction. So often it leads into a deeper disorientated when we do not recognize that we are lost and seek assistance. How much time is wasted when people just will not stop and ask for directions.

There are many people who think they are lost souls. Perhaps you know some of these people. There are many people who are convinced that their sins are so terrible that God would never forgive them. Many of them believe that they cannot be forgiven, even after they go to confession.

With Jesus Christ there are no lost souls. There are just people who need to know that they are so valuable that God longs for the day when He can rejoice with the angels that what was lost has now been found. In this Year of Mercy, the Church reminds us that every soul is precious and it is in the finding of someone who is lost and set back into the fold that God rejoices most. We have a responsibility to lead these lost souls back into the arms of their Father’s unconditional love. Nobody should be lost but truly found.

Available Seats: With the recent renovations to our church, please be aware that there are areas throughout the church that are accessible to those with walkers or wheelchairs. Even in front of the Holy Family shrine, is an open seated area to accommodate those who need it. For those who want Communion without leaving the pew, please sit in the front pews if possible or take advantage of the open seats. Simply ask an usher. These areas are created to make worship easier for everyone. -Fr. Joe

Thank you for your continued generosity to the parish as part of your gift to God for the good things God has given you.

Offertory $St. Vincent de Paul $ Other: $ ——————————————————TOTAL: $

SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES

Monday: The Most Holy Name of Mary

Tuesday: St. John Chrysostom

Wednesday: The Exaltation of the Holy Cross

Thursday: Our Lady of Sorrows

Friday: Ss. Cornelius and Cyprian

Saturday: St. Robert Bellarmine; Blessed Virgin Mary

In the Gospel this week, we hear about the Parable of the Lost Sheep, the Parable of the Lost Coin, and the Parable of the Prodigal Son. Jesus reminds us of God’s love for the lost, His compassion, and His unwavering quest to bring us back to Him when we stray. Bring It Home this week by receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation, attending Mass, and having a family dinner together. Thank God for His love and compassion, no matter how many times we stray.

Ministry Minute “ROOTED IN FAITH; GROWING DISCIPLES.”

VOCATIONS In today’s second reading, St. Paul says he is grateful to God for considering him trustworthy in appointing him to the ministry. He was grateful because he was aware of his own flaws – and yet God still called him! Could God be calling you to “the ministry” as a priest, deacon, religious sister or religious brother? If you think so, call or write Father Norm Carroll, Diocesan Director of Priestly and Religious Vocations (302-573-3113, [email protected]). And be sure to visit our website: www.cdow.org/vocations!

Welcome back to our new year. Classes formally begin on Tuesday, 9-13 and Sunday, 9-18. This year we will be learning and focusing on St. Francis de Sales and his teaching” “Nothing is as strong as true gentleness; nothing is as gentle as true strength”. In our world, these virtues seem at times very much in contention and we will learn this year about the harmony that can exist through these virtues by living them in light of our Christian identity.

If you have not registered for the program, please go to the RE website and follow the registration information that is posted there. All registrations are due as soon as possible. Registrations received after September 30 may not be accommodated. We are very excited to welcome your family to this year’s journey of faith and formation.

Outreach St. John the Beloved's St. Benedict Outreach Ministry is looking for volunteers who are bilingual in Spanish. Please contact Janice Rowan at 302-994-7867 or email Janice at [email protected] for more information.

Offertory Counting Ministry

St. John the Beloved's Offertory Counting Ministry is looking for additional money counters to join existing teams and act as substitutes. This ministry requires attention to detail and organization. Please prayerfully consider joining our team! If you are interested please email [email protected] with your contact information.

FREE PUBLIC LECTURE ON ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI Fr. Augustine Thompson, O.P., Professor of History at the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology and member of the Core Doctoral Faculty of the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley California will give a free public lecture titled, “Saint Francis of Assisi: the 100-year search for the man behind the legends,” on Monday, Sept. 26, 7:30-8:30 p.m., followed by Q&A, in Purnell Hall, Room 115 on the University of Delaware campus in Newark, DE. Fr. Thompson holds a PhD in medieval history from UC Berkeley, and was Professor of Religious Studies and History at the University of Virginia. His books and publications focus on medieval Italy and medieval religious history. His best-selling and highly readable Francis of Assisi: A New Biography (Cornell Univ. Press, 2012) has been highly acclaimed by scholars. St. Francis of Assisi is one of the most popular and beloved saints in history. Known for his love of nature and of the poor, he became a symbol for many causes. Fr. Thompson will show that much about the real man behind the legends can be discovered, if not perfectly, with a high degree of certainty. Sponsored by the Society of Catholic Scholars of Delaware and the UD Department of History.

Franciscan Value for September: Right Relationship - Living in harmony and respect for all of God’s creation through learning about our gifts/challenges in a context of mutual connection (trustworthiness, respect, caring, empathy).

Our school theme this year is COME, HOLY SPIRIT. Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful. And kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And you will renew the face of the earth. It is with great joy and anticipation that I look forward to my ninth year at St. John the Beloved. I would like to welcome back all our returning parents and extend a warm welcome to all those new parents who are joining us for the first time.

I’m confident that classes will run smoothly and I know these first few weeks will be a fine beginning of what should be a productive school year.

We welcome our new teachers:

Mrs. Alison Albert, ECP 4 year olds

Mrs. Kathryn Cuocolo, ECP 3 year olds

Mrs. Kelly O’Neill Raimondo, Grade 2
