Dear Friends, I am proud to announce that we raised 31,467.00 thus far for the new A.C. unit for the Church. The actual cost is 39, 985 so we are still short of our goal. So if you have yet to contribute to this much needed expense, please do so today. I would also like to thank those parishioners that donated already. Your kindness only proves to me that we are truly the best parish in the diocese. Thank you for the individual donations, the Saint Clare Novena donations, and the Fundraiser dinner dance sponsored by the St. Clare Society. May the Lord bless our parish and I am confident that we will meet our goal. Thank you! Fr. Peter SEPTEMBER 3 COLLECTION: POSTED NEXT WEEK

TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

First Reading: Exodus 32:7-11, 13-14 God became very angry with the Israelites for worshiping a molten calf and making sacrifices to it. The people had so quickly violated his commandments that he planned to destroy them. But Moses pleaded with God for mercy and God relented. Second Reading: 1 Timothy 1:12-17 Paul considered himself a former blasphemer and persecutor, and expressed his gratitude for the mercy Jesus showed him. Paul felt that he was a perfect example of Jesus' patience toward sinners and his desire to reconcile them with God. Gospel: Luke 15:1-32 The Pharisees grew angry because of the Jesus' compassion toward sinners. In response, Jesus tells of a son who squandered his inheritance, then returned to his father and asked to be treated as a hired hand. The father rejoiced, angering his older and more obedient son. The father explained that everything he owned belonged to his older son; but he had to rejoice for the son who was lost and had been found.

HIS WORD TODAY

“I am grateful to him who has strengthened me, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he considered me trustworthy in appointing me to the ministry…For that reason I was mercifully treated so that in me, as the foremost, Christ Jesus might display all his patience as an example, by those who would come to believe in him for everlasting life.”

The jubilee Year of Mercy is quickly coming to its close. The word today is a clear reminder for us of God’s tender compassion and inexhaustible mercy. Luke 15 is referred to as the chapter of mercy relating the parables of the lost sheep, the lost coin and the lost son, opening the way for the forgiving Father.

Paul’s gratitude for the mercy God has shown him, can be our prayer as well. Pope Francis constantly reminds us, that we who have known mercy are better able to extend mercy to others.

Today, September 11th can be a moment of mercy and forgiveness for all the hurts we have experienced. Today, can be a moment of gospel forgiveness to be offered to others. BY REV. WILLIAM J. REILLY

Catholic Charity Box will be moved

I want to thank all the generous parishioners of St. Clare for the donations to our Catholic Charities donation bin. Unfortunately, due to a lack of response lately we will be removing the bin.

We still would like to offer the option of a house pick up for larger quantities of clothing, shoes & household items (sorry no furniture). You can schedule a pick up by calling our toll free number @ 877-343-3651.

Thank You! CATHOLIC CHARITIES

Be Rich in Good Works

Many parishioners have received, or will soon receive, a letter from Bishop Serratelli requesting support for the 2016 Bishop’s Annual Appeal. This year, the theme of the Appeal is Be Rich in Good

Works. The Bishop’s Annual Appeal supports four very worthy causes: our Catholic Charities agencies; Nazareth Village, our diocesan priests’

retirement residence; our inner-city elementary schools and seminarian education. Last year’s Appeal raised a record amount which meant

that even more could be done for the people in our Diocese. You can help make this year’s Appeal an even greater success by making a

generous pledge today. Whatever you can do to help will be a great blessing!

GIVING TO THE BISHOP APPEAL MAY BE DONE ON OUR WEBSITE WWW.SAINTCLARENJ.COM
