FAMILY PERSPECTIVE Disagreements are common in families. But what would you say if Jesus posed the same question “What are you arguing about?” Is it silly and petty? Is it an attempt to impose your will and control on another? Today Jesus tells us and his disciples to give it up. We are meant to serve each other, not control.

Opening Hymn: Let Us Go to the Altar
Refrain:
Let us go to the altar of God, the God of our gladness and joy! Let us enter the courts of the house of the Lord and sing to the glory of God. (Verses)
Verses:
Give praise with blast of trumpet, with noble sound of the horn. With the clash of the clanging cymbal, give glory to the Lord! (Refrain)
Give praise with lyre and timbrel, with lute and sound of the harp. With the dance of the flute and oboe, give glory to the Lord! (Refrain)
Give praise with pipe and organ, with rousing beat of the drum. With the call of the bell and bagpipe, give glory to the Lord! (Refrain)
First Reading Wisdom 2:12, 17-20 (134B) A reading from the Book of Wisdom
The wicked say: Let us beset the just one, because he is obnoxious to us; he sets himself against our doings, reproaches us for transgressions of the law and charges us with violations of our training. Let us see whether his words be true; let us find out what will happen to him. For if the just one be the son of God, God will defend him and deliver him from the hand of his foes. With revilement and torture let us put the just one to the test that we may have proof of his gentleness and try his patience. Let us condemn him to a shameful death; for according to his own words, God will take care of him.
Responsorial Psalm:
Ps. 54:3-4, 5, 6 & 8

Things to note during restrictions due to Covid:
•Per the Diocese of Youngstown, reception of the Precious Blood from the Chalice is
suspended.
•Holy Communion will be received by hand, not by mouth. Please wait for the usher to
release you from the pew, maintain 6 feet of space and wear your mask until you
reach the altar. At that time pull your mask down, hold out your hands, receive the
Host and replace your mask.
•Please take this bulletin with you! Do not leave it in the pews.
Thank you!
Prayer for Catechists
Loving Father, we pray today for our catechists. We thank you for their gift of ministry in your Church.
Grant them your wisdom that they may grow in the understanding and teaching of your Word. Grant them also your love that they may be fruitful heralds of your Word and lead others to love you.
Pour forth your Holy Spirit upon them to grant them wisdom about what is important; knowledge of the truths of faith; understanding of their meaning; right judgement about how to apply them in life; courage to persevere even in the face of adversity; reverence before all that is sacred and holy; and that loving zeal which leads others to a transforming encounter with your Son.
We pray this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Dear Catechists,
On Sunday, September 19,
2021 we as a Church will celebrate
Catechetical Sunday. This is typically
a day when catechists are
commissioned by their pastor to pass
on the faith through religious
education. It is also a time when the
entire faith community beholds you and
your ministry.
As bishop, I want to thank you
for answering the call to teach as
Jesus did. I, along with your pastor
and the parents of our children who
benefit from your passion and zeal,
appreciate all of your efforts.
The theme for this year’s
observance is: “Say the Word and My
Soul Shall be Healed.” I am grateful
for all that you do to proclaim the Word
of God and make it so real for our
children. You truly echo the words of
Jesus. I pray that all of your words will
reach the souls of your students and
bring about grace. It is because of
people like you, who joyfully proclaim
the Gospel, that the faith continues to
be passed on from generation to
generation.
Be assured of a remembrance
in my prayers. I hope you will do the
same for me. Together, let us pray,
“That All May Be One.”
Sincerely in Christ,
Most Reverend David J. Bonnar
Bishop of Youngstown

disorder and every foul practice. But the wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peaceable, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, without inconstancy or insincerity. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for those who cultivate peace. Where do the wars and where do the conflicts among you come from? Is it not from your passions that make war within your members? You covet but do not possess. You kill and envy but you cannot obtain; you fight and wage war. You do not possess because you do not ask. You ask but do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.
Gospel Mark 9:30-37
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark
Profession of Faith Nicene Creed
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe
in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins, and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Presentation of Gifts: Come, Follow Me Refrain:
Come, follow me and live; do not be afraid. Believe and trust in me; your faith will give you strength. Leave all your fears behind you; let your heart be free, for I will be your guide. Oh, come and follow me. (Verses)
Verses:
Come, follow in these footsteps; I’ll lead you gently home. No shelter, food nor money will you need upon this road. (Refrain)
Come, walk across the water; place all your faith in me. Cast all your doubts behind you to the wind and raging sea. (Refrain)
If you remain within me, my words remain in you. Whatever you may ask of me, that is what I will do. (Refrain)
Communion Hymn: God of the Hungry God of all the hungry millions, God who suffers with the poor, still our greed keeps us from sharing with the hungry at our door. All who thirst will thirst no longer when we do as you would do. May we care for all your people; help us know that they are you.
God who travels with the stranger, greeted by our apathy, teach us to embrace all people; all can live with dignity. You have bid us clothe the naked, bringing hope in all we do. May we welcome all your people; help us know that they are you.
God who loves the sick, the dying,
they are precious in your sight; we will bring them your compassion, fill their living with your light. God who brings the captive freedom, free our hearts to love anew. May we comfort all your people; help us know that they are you.
Meditation Hymn: Thanks Be to You
Thanks be to you, my Lord, Jesus Christ, for all the benefits that you have given me; for all the pains and insults you have borne for me. O most merciful Redeemer, friend and brother, may I know you more clearly, love you more dearly, and follow you more nearly, follow you more nearly.
Closing Hymn: Take the Word of God with You Verse:
Take the word of God with you as you go. Take the seeds of God’s word and make them grow. (Refrain)
Refrain:
Go in peace to serve the world, in peace to serve the world. Take the love of God, the love of God with you as you go. (Verses)
Verses:
Take the peace of God with you as you go. Take the seeds of God’s peace and make them grow. (Refrain)
Take the joy of God with you as you go. Take the seeds of God’s joy and make them grow. (Refrain)
