INTRODUCTION

Chemical Process Piping Pvt. Ltd. (CPP) is a Pioneers and Market leader in the field of

Design, Manufacture & Erection of Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic FRP, GRE, UPVC/FRP,

PP/FRP, PVDF/FRP, CPVC/FRP Pipes and fittings in India, serving the industry for five

decades.

CPP have supplied critical piping to various countries such as Germany, UAE, Qatar, Saudi

Arabia, Jordan, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, etc. CPP is Market leader in the

supply and Installation of GRP Piping and Headers for Chlor-Alkali Membrane Cell Plants in

India and Middle East. Major consultants/ EPC contractors have placed their confidence on

CPP for their requirement of GRP Pipes and Fittings. Our experience of over 50 years in

serving the chemical and allied industry worldwide has helped us to better understand the

requirements of the Water, Power, Oil & Gas Industries.

CPP has commissioned a state-of-the-art a Flange Machine to manufacture FRP Backing

Flanges to match international standards & specification using high strength fiberglass

reinforcement impregnated with polyester resin. Backing Flanges are manufactured using

high capacity presses at elevated temperatures. The Press Machine temperature is controlled

by PLC and is equipped with a cooling system. The flanges have been tested extensively at

our in-house laboratory resulting in the most optimally designed flanges for chemical, power,

water, desalination, oil and gas industries.

1. Scope

1.1 This specification covers FRP Backing flanges size up to DN 300 and includes requirements for materials, workmanship, performance, testing and dimensions.

1.2 Backing Flange are manufactured using high capacity presses at elevated temperature. The Press Machine Temperature is controlled by PLC and is equipped with Cooling System for faster turn around.

3. Materials and Manufacture

3.1 FRP Backing Flanges manufactured in accordance with this specification are made of layers of high strength chopped strand mats and woven rovings impregnated with polyester resin by applying external pressure and heat. The laminates contains approximate 50% fiberglass (±) 10%. & 50% Resin (±) 10%.

6. Performance Requirements

6.1 FRP Backing Flanges are designed to meet the following performance requirements according to the CPP recommended practice for field installation.

6.1.1 Sealing — FRP Backing Flanges are designed to withstand a pressure of at least 1.5 times the rated design pressure without leakage.

Page 4: Sepcification for Machine Made FRP Backing Flange

Page4of4

6.1.2 Short-Term Rupture Strength—FRP Backing Flanges are designed to withstand a hydrostatic Pressure/load of at least 3 times the rated pressure rating without damage to the flange.

6.1.3 Bolt Torque—Flanges are designed to withstand, a bolt torque of at least 1.5 times of the recommended torque for sealing of the flange at its rated pressure. Table 1 gives the recommended torque values for flange bolting.

Note: - The above torque values are based on using EPDM Gaskets of 6 mm thickness with 1.5 mm thk carbon steel inserted. Hardness of the gaskets is 55º to 650 shore A.

Special Note: These stress levels are nominal insofar as they may have to be exceeded in practice to provide against all conditions that tend to produce a leaking joint. However, there is sufficient margin to provide a satisfactory closure without having to overload or continually retighten the bolts. Torque spanners or other means for preventing the application of excessive load either on the bolt or flange may be necessary.

8. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance

8.1 FRP Backing Flanges are free from defect such as de-laminations.

9. Test Methods

9.1 Chemical Process Piping CPP, LTD has successfully carried out in-house hydrostatic long-term tests as per ASTM D 2992, method B in order to confirm the 1000 Hrs. survival test on FRP Backing Flange under constant hydrostatic internal pressure at 66º C temperature. 6 Nos of individual specimens have been tested at different hydrostatic internal pressure levels to determine their time-to-failure points. In this context, the time-to-failure points have to meet a specified distribution.

9.2 Chemical Process Piping CPP, LTD has successfully carried out breaking test on FRP Backing Flanges as per ASTM D 1599.
