CRRDA Concept Visualisation Only - Not Final or Approved

Cross River Rail is a new 10.2km rail line between Dutton Park and Bowen Hills that includes 5.9kms of twin tunnels under the Brisbane River and CBD.

The project will unlock the bottleneck at the core of our transport network, allowing more trains to run more often and integrating with new roads and bus services to enable a turn-up-and-go transport system for the whole of South East Queensland.

Once Cross River Rail is complete in 2024, Woolloongabba will have its very own underground station and will be just a three-minute train journey from both a new Albert Street station in Brisbane’s CBD to the north and a new underground station at the Boggo Road health, science and education precinct to the south.

'Station to Stadium' connection.

A new underground station will not only provide Woolloongabba residents with access to high frequency rail services, but also an opportunity for urban renewal, economic development and revitalisation of the land above the station.

The Cross River Rail Woolloongabba Precinct Concept explores the possibility of new public spaces, a large public park, affordable and sustainable housing, new retail outlets and multiple new commercial premises, located across the 6.5 hectare site that is currently being cleared for construction.

A 'Station to Stadium' connection is a core part of this concept, providing safe and convenient access from the Woolloongabba bus and train stations to The Gabba on event days and delivering a new stadium plaza that will benefit visitors and residents all year round.

This Station to Stadium connection will also be a boost for the redevelopment of the iconic Gabba Stadium. That is why the Queensland Government has specifically asked Cross River Rail to investigate the possibility of a stadium connection that could be delivered at the same time as the construction of the train station.

Work at the Woolloongabba site is already underway. In February 2018, demolition of the Goprint site was completed and works to remove the Landcentre and South Brisbane Dental Hospital buildings started in August 2018. Remediation of the site is now well underway and is scheduled to be completed by mid 2019.

Once fully cleared, the site will first be used to launch the tunnelling machines that will construct the new 5.9km twin tunnels. This will be followed by station construction and any subsequent precinct construction.

It is critical that we consult with the local Woolloongabba community as we develop precinct concepts and move towards major construction.

Visit the Woolloongabba Precinct page on our website where you can learn more about the precinct concept, participate in a survey and lodge with us any specific thoughts or suggestions.

On the same page you will find details of information stands and community engagement sessions that we will be hosting throughout March, including:

Please use our information line or email address if you would like to contact Cross River Rail to speak directly to our team.
