    -The writer or speaker statesfact after fact as they occur,

    seemingly freely and artlessly.

    -A loose sentence, also called

    a cumulative sentence,begins with a main clause thatis followed by phrases and/or

    clauses that modify the mainclause. These phrases orclauses add information to the

    main or independent clause.

    -The writer or speaker has a

    concern for symmetry thesend half of the sentence

    contains a similar or opposite

    idea to the first half. These

    techniques are very effectivein persuasion, and are

    sometimes known asparallelism or antithesis

    -A sentence made up of two

    parts that are roughly equal inlength, importance, and

    grammatical structure:

    a paired construction.

    -A balanced sentence that

    makes a contrast iscalled antithesis.

    -The climax of the sentencecomes at its end.

    -A periodic sentence has the

    main clause or predicate at

    the end. This is used foremphasis and can bepersuasive by putting reasons

    for something at the beginningbefore the final point is made.It can also create suspense or

    interest for the reader.
