SENTENCE PATTERNS SIMPLE & COMPOUND 1. A simple sentence has only one verb and one idea: He is a shopkeeper. I like apples. Cats eat fish. The dogs barked last night. They gave me a watch. 2. We form a compound sentence by joining two simple sentences. 3. We waited for him, but he did not turn up. They are tired, so they sleep early. She is ill, yet she goes to school.
