Dear Kathy Thank you for this comprehensive response This information will be forwarded to the Committee to help with their decision Best regards Clive From Kathy Adams [mailtokathyadamsvirginmediacom] Sent 04 February 2014 0955 To Clive Coleman Cc Chris Wood KATHERINE Adams Subject CancerWise Community Initiative Fund Application 222SC Dear Clive
Chris Wood has asked me to respond to your email asking for further information to support our application
The professional fees to the course facilitators amount to pound375 each for 15 hours (2 days) of course delivery The course facilitators have been trained by the national centre in Bristol of Penny Brohn Cancer Care to deliver the courses locally and along the South Coast The training is an accredited training and equips the facilitators with expertise in facilitation skills to empower the participants with life style skills and self management The training is unique in the field of cancer care and is based on 30 years of cancer survivorship experience and the course has been very successfully evaluated by Westminster University showing clinical improvement in the participants cancer experience
CancerWise prides itself in delivering excellence in its care and has recognised that this is only possible by paying professional therapists counsellors and educators It is simply not possible to provide this standard of care otherwise
The Training Process is as follows
Part 1 Attend a residential 2 day training at Penny Brohn Cancer Care National Centre nr Bristol
Part 2 Complete and pass two written assignments
Part 3 Shadow a Living Well Course
Part 4 Attend further training days which includes a short assessed presentation
Part 5 Co-facilitate a Living Well Course part of which is observed and assessed
Part 6 Complete a required portfolio of learning
Accreditation is awarded to those who attend complete and successfully pass all assessed components
Once accredited Living Well Facilitators will be offered 2 CPD days (one every 6 months) at the centre and facilitators will be expected to keep up-to-date with developments of the course and their skills
At the moment the CancerWise facilitators are 2 of only 4 facilitators of a cancer survivorship courses in the south of England They deliver courses in Chichester Portsmouth The Isle of Wight and Southampton There are plans to make this course more widely available but at the moment this is a pioneering service The clients at CancerWise are amongst the first to be receiving this government initiative driven improving cancer outcome course
I include biographies of the two facilitators K used to work as a nurse manager in the NHS she has trained as a counsellor health coach and in several complimentary therapies She brings this knowledge and experience to her specialisation in helping people understand stress and learn to optimise their healing and wellbeing Kathy teaches this in the NHS to patients and nurses and also in her private practice

I hope this is the information that you need to support our funding application Do get in touch if you need anything else
